Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
The talented running back has spent the offseason proving to people that he’s fast in the open field, and his training and drive have been impressive to watch from afar. Savion has been a highly heralded player since his middle school days, and going into his senior year, he’s the engine to a strong ground attack for the Green Wave. I’m expecting a strong weekend from him in this setting for sure.

Pound for pound, I believe Savion is one of the best running backs in the state of North Carolina. With his natural strength, he’s shown that he can be a bellcow running back if the Green Wave offense needs to lean on him. Behind a big offensive line, Savion had a really strong season in helping lead Ashbrook to the 4th round of the state playoffs. From a recruiting perspective, Savion has offers from Syracuse, Miami (OH), and a ton of interest from several other Division 1 college football programs. I’m excited to see what Savion does for his senior year – he’s working very hard and looks to be motivated to have a huge season.

Lindsay is a prime breakout candidate heading into next season as Ashbrook looks to make another deep postseason run. At 5’9”, 185 pounds, he’s a compact, powerful back who runs with good balance and finishes through contact. Despite a limited workload, he was highly efficient—totaling 844 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns on just 136 carries, while also contributing 190 receiving yards and 3 more scores. His production per touch stands out and suggests there’s another level waiting to be unlocked with an expanded role. With Ashbrook’s momentum and Lindsay’s versatility, he’s positioned to take a major step forward and become a focal point of the offense.

Savion really came into his own this past season, becoming a lead back for a very strong Ashbrook team. Savion rushed for nearly 1100 yards and 13 touchdowns on an offense that had a very good 2nd running back and a running quarterback, so you can imagine what his numbers could be with even more touches. Savion has grown physically to 5’9 and 195 pounds, and he brings speed and power with every touch he gets. Savion has offers from Syracuse and Miami (Ohio) and a lot of interest from other schools, and is a strong consideration for our 704 Junior Bowl team.

Lindsay is a smaller back, but has fantastic vision, especially on zone scheme runs. He’s able to wait patiently for a hole to develop, then hit it at full speed. Able to run through arm tackles, he keeps a low center of gravity and pad level, making himself difficult to square up. As a junior, he showed more explosion, especially as a receiver out of the backfield.

It feels like we’re waiting on the true breakout for Lindsay, who has performed well in limited opportunities, but hasn’t yet had a full workload. He had 10 touches in a game just twice last season, but still went over 100 yards three times for Ashbrook as a sophomore. He’s a quick, compact back with one of the better receiving profiles in the state. Yet again, he thrived on the camp circuit and we’re excited to see him this fall.

Savion is a player that coming into high school had super high expectations based on the incredible highlights he produced in middle school in the Gaston County area. Last season, you started to see some of those big plays happen for him for the Green Wave. Savion really has some impressive explosive ability to get into the open field and do some special things. Savion showed the ability to line up at receiver and do some things also, so we could be in a treat with a player who is dangerous in different places on offense.

If you’re looking for a guy to have a breakout season at running back, look no further than Lindsay, who moves over from Kings Mountain. He’s a compact runner with excellent pad level and if defenses aren’t careful, he’ll just bounce off tacklers. We loved him when we saw him at our Prep Redzone camp and we’re extremely high on his upside.

Lindsay had a very modest freshman season, but tore up the camp circuit this offseason, earning multiple college offers and excelling at our Prep Redzone Showcase. He has an excellent athletic profile and the ability to finish plays near the end zone. Should he get the opportunities at Ashbrook, he could have a huge sophomore season.
