Continue ReadingWe are nearing the end of spring football and programs are getting a good idea of what it is their team may look like come the fall. Players are getting an idea of what is working for them as far as their training and diets are concerned. At the same time, new and veteran coaches are figuring out what may or may not be working for them. Whether it is the drills they do, or the scrimmage games played coaches and players are fine tuning their games on the regular. In this series I will be covering as many schools as I can, from as many different classes as I can. ln this article we will take a look at the class 6A Greenwood Bulldogs.
L.J. Robins #11
WR
c/o 2024
L.J. Robins is coming off of a very successful 2021 season. Finding himself a viable target for his quarterback, as well as making himself known to other teams. Robins was named to the 6A All-Conference team as a wide receiver, as well as being named to the All-State Underclassman team. L.J. accrued 1,212 all-purpose yards in the 2021 season: 898 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. L.J. is very fast right out of the gate and knows when to turn on the Jets. At 5’10″ 155lbs, Robins runs a 4.49 40-yard dash and has a 31″ vertical. He runs solid routes and burns the competition. Robins and this Bulldog offense look to turn it up in 2022.
Storm Scherrey #2
SS
c/o 2023
Storm Scherrey is a strong safety that is a lot of fun to watch play. Storm stands at 6’0″ 191lbs and displays great speed and body control. He makes big plays, showing that he goes sideline to sideline with ease. Storm shows good awareness while the play is going, as well as making solid pre-snap reads. Scherrey has the ability to become a true ballhawk and I look forward to seeing what he and this Bulldog defense can do in 2022.
Hunter Houston Hunter Houston 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Greenwood | 2023 State AR #9
QB
c/o 2023
Hunter Houston Hunter Houston 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Greenwood | 2023 State AR is coming off of a 2021 season where he made the 6A All-Conference team. A season that saw Houston throw for 3,080 passing yards, 26 touchdowns with a 69% completion rate. Not to mention his 334 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. Hunter has a strong arm and makes good, accurate throws. He can throw on the run or stand firm in the pocket. Hunter has a really good sense of where to put the ball so that his receiver is the only one that can get it. I look forward to seeing what kind of damage this Greenwood offense can do come the fall.
Evan Williams #43
MLB/OLB
c/o 2023
Evan Williams is a bruising linebacker who can play on the outside or in the middle. He is coming off of a season where he accrued 138 tackles, 33 solo tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, as well as 6 sacks and 2 interceptions. Evan is a 6’2″ 215lb tackling machine that runs a 4.7 40-yard dash. He is explosive right out of the gate. Williams does a good job of reading the opposing offense and can play sideline to sideline with the quickness. Evan plays with a relentlessness that is loved by coaches, and not to mention he is fun to watch. Williams and the Bulldog defense look to rise to any challenge that any offenses present to them.
