In this article, we will analyze and look into some of the best up and coming underclassmen in the city of Houston and its surrounding areas. These young men have shown that they have the skill set, mentality, and work ethic that it takes to compete at a high level, even though they are still developing. Without further notice, let’s dive in and take a quick look at some of the best underclassmen in the city of Houston.
Tre’ Sean Cunningham- 5’6 155Ibs/ DB/ Spring High School
Analysis: Tre’ Sean Cunningham is only a sophomore, but he has caught my eye in different ways. He plays with a high motor, and has the level of physicality you need to play at the varsity level. Cunningham has very good speed, and makes sure he delivers big blows when he makes tackles. Also, he has keen awareness in the field of play and does a good job at locating the ball. Then he does a tremendous job at forcing fumbles and doing his best to take it back the other way. Look for him to only improve in the next two years!
Jeremy Hampton- 5’6 120Ibs/DB/ Woodlands High School
Analysis: Jeremy Hampton is a player that I would keep my eye on in the next couple of years. Hampton still needs some development when it comes to his speed and strength, but he still gets the job done. He is a physical player and does a great job at making tackles. His read and react skills are excellent as well, which allows him to make a play on the ball! Next, he possesses decent speed and will only get stronger the more he develops in the weight room. With more experience and playing time, Jeremy Hampton has a bright future ahead of him.
Alexis Mayer: 6’3 170Ibs/ QB/ Woodlands High School
Analysis: Alexis Mayer is a young athlete that I see that has the potential to become a premier quarterback. He has decent arm strength and accuracy. This component of his game will only improve the more he trains and develops. Mayer displays good vision when reading the defense in order to deliver great throws to the open receiver. He has a tall and slender build as well. Finally, Alexis Mayer has displayed his keen footwork in the pocket, and does his best to stand in their like a champ and deliver the ball! Look out for him in the next three years!
Kaleb Bailey Kaleb Bailey 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB North Shore | 2025 State TX : 6’1 185Ibs/QB/ Northshore High School
Analysis: Kaleb Bailey Kaleb Bailey 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB North Shore | 2025 State TX , just a freshman last year, has proven why he can play at a high level as an underclassman. He was 61/90 for 924 yards while rushing for 783 yards on 110 carries! This young man will turn into a true stud in the future. He can hurt you with his legs or through the air. He has really good speed, and has shown that he can deliver timely accurate throws when he needs to. Next, bailey does a really good job at going through his progressions. He also does an excellent job at standing tall in the pocket with patience, while using his great footwork to allow receivers to get open and make great catches. Look for him to become a superstar in the next couple of years!
Christopher Barnes- 5’8 155Ibs/WR/ Northshore High School
Analysis: Mr. Barnes is a sleeper player on this list. This young man has great lateral movement and quickness. When it comes to route running, he is very explosive off of the ball and does a very good job at getting open. Barnes can also be used as a reliable weapon on special teams with his speed as well. In the run game, he does a tremendous job at making plays and blocking down field allowing his team the best opportunity to score. Watch out for him for the upcoming 2022 football season!
