Expert Analysis
Chris Smith | Prep Redzone Scout
Coming off leading his Pirates team to a region title, Wellington has kept his strong senior play going in the playoffs where he has been running all over opponents while tossing it in the air successfully when called upon. The Pirates offense is averaging near 50 points through three games and Wellington is a big reason why. His presence behind center along with his athleticism and running abilities have been a problem for opposing defenses. Wellington has improved on his passing, which has flashed well in the playoffs but it’s his speed and vision when he runs that gives people problems. It will be interesting to see how Wellington transitions to college ball next year and what position he settles with because his athletic abilities certainly play up.

Wellington has put together a near flawless season as the Pirates starting quarterback where he has his team currently undefeated and playing some of the best football in the state, regardless of classification. Where this Chattanooga area senior has developed the most this year is definitely with his passing, which has opened up the Pirates offense, providing them balance and explosive abilities. He has still provided big plays on the ground as well with his legs helping his South Pitt offense average over 40 points a game this year. Wellington definitely received tough competition for this award but he certainly earned it with a stellar senior year.
