IA Class 1A Recap From Week 5

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As we officially reach the halfway point of the 2026 high school football season, the 1A conference remains very much competitive, with 23 teams sitting with a record above .500 at the moment. However, we begin to see a growing distance between t top contenders and the wild-card teams, and while there is still plenty of time for the standings to shift drastically, we begin to get a fuller understanding of how the playoff picture in this conference might play out over the next 4 weeks. We take a look today at the top results and standouts from week 5 in Class 1A Iowa!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Top Games:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Northeast</strong> vs. Cascade: <strong>24-21</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Week 5 was a historic victory for the Rebels, snapping an 8 game losing streak to Cascade dating back to 2012, and affirming their status as one of the most dangerous teams in the 1A conference. The Rebels got off to a hot start, taking a 12-0 lead by the end of the 1st quarter, thanks in part to their powerful run-game, which rumbled their way for 370 yards (6.1 YPC) on the ground and 4 TDs. Cascade rallied in the 2nd half, but their efforts were ultimately fruitless as they struggled to find a rhythm offensively, accumulating just 145 yards of total offense. The Rebels were able to control the clock, securing by far their biggest win of the season so far as they aim right now toward finishing with an undefeated record by the end of the regular season. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Aiden Feddersen (JR) - </strong>While his QB provided some of the more explosive plays, it was Feddersen's rock-solid leverage on the ground that helped control the game for the Rebels, and the Cougars were simply unable to slow him down. Feddersen ran for 173 yards on 36 carries (4.8 YPC) and 2 TDs while adding a 15 yard reception. Defensively, he recorded 3 tackles (All solo), a TFL, and a sack.</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>West Marshall</strong> vs. Pleasantville: <strong>45-42</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>With [player_tooltip player_id='1197483' first='Braylon' last='Bingham'] back in the lineup for the Trojans, they were poised to duel it out against the Trojans on Friday night. However, the Trojans likely did not expect the Trojans, who had averaged just 13 PPG offensively over their 1st 4 games to explode on their defense, particularly on the ground, driving their way to 341 total yards of rushing (7.8 YPC) and 4 TDs on the ground. The Trojans were able to come away with severa key plays in the 2nd half, including a game-changing pick-six and a 4th down stop leading late in the 4th in which they would respond to build their lead. The Trojans scored late to cut the deficit to 3 points, and they were able to recover a surprise onside kick attempt. However, an offside penalty overturned the call, and their second attempt was recovered by the Trojans, sealing the upset win on the road. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Blayk Hart (SR) - </strong>Hart was almost completely unstoppable on the run on Friday night. Hart finished 7 of 14 passing for 110 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT, while adding an impressive 218 rushing yards (7 YPC) and all 4 TDs on the ground for the Trojans. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Eagle Grove</strong> vs. Central Springs: <strong>28-27</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>A historic meltdown for the Panthers, everything was going their way in the 1st half on homecoming night as they surged to a 27-0 lead. However, all of their luck ran out, and the Eagles roared back to life in the 2nd half, with several key defensive stands and a potent rushing attack, scored 4 TDs in the 2nd half, including the game-winner from 2 yards out with 27 seconds remaining. The final drive for the Panthers ended with 4 straight incompletions, allowing Eagle Grove to spoil their homecoming in brutal fashion, and with their 3rd win of the season, the Eagles have now surpassed their win total from last season. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Adrian Whipple (SR) - </strong>Whipple delivered with a gritty performance on the road, overcoming his first-half struggles to pull off an improbable comeback. Whipple finished 8 of 13 for 140 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT while leading the offense with 32 rushing yards on 12 carries. He added an interception on defense, and scored a 2PT conversion. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Ogden</strong> vs. West Central Valley: <strong>17-14</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>After losing 3 in a row, the Bulldogs snapped their losing streak with a road upset over the Wildcats, though that outcome certainly would not have been predicted with the way the Wildcats played in the 1st half. The Wildcats shut down Ogden's offense early on, taking a 14-3 lead at halftime. In the 2nd half, the Bulldogs were able to almost completely smother the Wildcats' offense, forcing 4 turnovers, including 3 fumble recoveries on defense, and as the night went on, the Bulldogs were able to create some sparks offensively, scoring 14 unanswered in the 4th quarter, and holding on for their 2nd straight win over the Wildcats as they now move up to 2-3. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Landon Alexander (SR) - </strong>The defense had several outstanding performers over the course of the night, but Alexander was consistently all over the field as he helped the Bulldogs rally in the 2nd half. Alexander recorded 14.5 tackles (11 solo), 5 TFLs, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">South Central Calhoun vs. <strong>Emmetsburg: 7-6</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>An undefeated team lost it's status on Friday night as the Titans lost in a low-scoring defensive battle against the E-Hawks. The E-Hawks scored right away in the 1st quarter with their lone TD of the night, while the Titans scored in the 2nd quarter, but missed the extra point, which in the end proved to be the difference of the game. With the offense for the Titans left one-note without a passing game, as well as several special teams miscues proved to determine the outcome. The E-Hawks punted with just under 5 minutes left, but it went muffed as the returned could not track the ball.
