Weeks 1-3 Film Review

Ali has showed all of the traits that I have heard about over the last few years. He is an impressive improvisor, buying time with his legs and frustrating pass rushers. He keeps his eyes downfield and does a great job of distributing the ball, even under pressure. Through 3 weeks, Ali is 38/60 with 750 passing yards, an impressive 7 touchdowns with only 1 interception. On top of that, he has added 158 rushing yards and another TD in the process. So far, Prison is 32/48 for 354 and 4 touchdowns, with another 38 carries for 302 yards and another 3 touchdowns. He has showed great arm strength, the ability to scramble and move, and just put his head down and go get the tough yards when the situation calls for it. He has shown improvement in his mechanics and more consistency in his throwing motion. Just look at his stats from week 3 alone! 8 catches for over 200 yards is impressive enough, but 3 of them went for touchdowns, and he added a 99 yard kick return for a TD, and also added an interception for good measure. His quick first step allows him to get even with the DB from the start, and then accelerates and blows by the defense. When the ball comes his way, he flashes late hands that are super reliable. Obviously with those traits, he's a kick return master with great speed and vision, which also translates to YAC in the passing game as well. At 6'2 220, Stein is one of the most physically imposing defensive players I watched in this round of film work. He reads his keys well and doesn't get fooled, stays home and makes plays time after time. He does a great job of stringing it out when offenses try to turn the corner on him, and fills gaps when they go downhill. Especially in the passing game, this dude has a very strong anchor and flat out consumes pass rushers. He takes control early with a good punch and is able to move laterally, keeping everything in front of him. That agility does him well in the run game as well, as Belleville has no issue using him to pull or go execute blocks at the 2nd level. As soon as he gets his big paws on a defender, they're officially out of the play. Not only that, but being this efficient is incredibly impressive. Through 3 weeks, Will is 38/54 with 610 yards and 7 touchdowns. Will has the technical aspects of the QB position down. His consistency with his mechanics and throwing motion allows him to be very accurate and make high level throws. He does it all with confidence too, hitting out routes with great timing and can absolutely uncork it on deep balls with great touch. As he continues to develop physically, these throws will only get more consistent and easier for Smith.
