2028 Defensive Standouts in Kentucky with Offers

He plays well downhill and is a sure tackler in the open field. Officer can shed blocks and fill gaps in blitz packages, but he is just as effective when breaking out into pass coverage. He finished this past season with 100 total tackles, including 68 solo and 10 tackles for loss. He also had six pass breakups. Officer currently fields his choice of offers, including Indiana, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Miami (OH), and EKU. Watts hits hard and possesses the physicality and aggressiveness needed to play big-time defensive back minutes at the next level. He's quick to recognize the play and find the football post-snap. However, he's very athletic, which is why he plays defensive back -- he can stick with receivers in stride, jump routes, and break on the ball at a moment's notice. He finished this past season with 40 tackles, including five tackles for loss, two sacks, and six pass breakups. Davis is great at play recognition and is adaptable in a variety of situations. He sticks to his assignments and isn't easily fooled by misdirections or trick plays. Davis is great in one-on-one situations, but is also disciplined when defending his zone. He doubles as a receiver on the other side of the ball, where he is a playmaker. However, he projects higher on defense, where he hauled in a pair of interceptions in 2025. He's physical and flies to the football. He doesn't wait for the ball to come to him. Instead, he gets himself in a pursuit angle, allowing him to lunge for tackles cleanly and with confidence. James gets downhill in a hurry and provides reliable outside contain along the edge. He's most explosive as a run-stuffer, but is more than capable of dropping back in coverage and in one-on-one situations. He finished the season with 96 tackles in 2025, including 61 solo and 13.5 tackles for loss. The latter was good for fifth in the 4A class.
