Bi-District Playoffs: Brewer Bear Difference Makers

The Brewer Bears head into the Texas High School Playoffs lead by HC Todd Peterman and a veteran coaching staff. Brewer came up short in very physical contest against Northwest 42-17 two weeks ago and finished the regular season by thumping Arlington Heights to end the district race as Co-Champs in District 3-5A DI. The Bears at 8-2, have clinched a playoff berth and are trending in the right direction. Here are some of the Brewer Difference Makers who will be key contributors as they head into the playoffs. Montrail Cushionberry| Running Back | Class of 2022 Cushionberry is the workhorse and the focal point of the Bears power run game. Montrail hits the hole with authority, has the ability to get small in the hole, keeps his shoulders square, has a powerful lower body that allows him to break tackles for extra yardage, has a bully mentality with ball in his hands and has the speed to make house calls. Cushionberry is exceptionally quick, cuts against the grain with ease, and makes defenders miss in the open field. He has been featured in the Bears offense for three years and was an all district selection in 2020. Montrail is on pace for a 1,000 yard season and went over the century mark against the Northwest Texans two weeks ago. Each year that I have seen Cushionberry perform, he has continued to make improvements in his game, which includes being a threat in the passing game on screens and he excels at the wheel route which he has scored TDs on since he has been the main starter at running back. Colleges coaches looking for a running back to tote the load need to get Cushionberry on their radar. B.J. Williams|  Athlete | Class of 2022 Put the ball in Williams's hands and he just makes plays. BJ was the Bears starting QB as a Sophomore, moved to wide receiver his junior year and has lined up as a defensive back on the Brewer defense. He is a factor in the return game on special teams. Once Williams gets in the open field and the defense makes a mistake, BJ can them pay by taking it to the house.  When lining up as a wideout, Williams has breakaway speed, runs crisp routes, gets off the line with ease, is shifty in the open field, can line up at any position (RB, QB, WR) and has to be gameplanned for by opposing teams. Williams can cut on a dime, is smooth in the open field and makes it look effortless as if he glides thru a defense. BJ is a next level talent and has offers from Colorado and Liberty. Keiran Patrick Daniels | Athlete | Class of 2024 Nicknamed " Hawk", when Daniels has the ball his hands he takes flight. Keiran has next level speed, his quickness allows him to get on defenders quickly, his route running leaves defenders guessing where he is going, gets deep quickly and he is a nightmare matchup wherever he lines up. During the Bears six game winning streak, Daniels was leading District 3-5A DI in return yards, showing his versatility and ability to be a threat from anywhere on the field. I had the opportunity to see Daniels scorch defenders multiple times on the 7v7 circuit this past spring and summer and he has continued to make improvements in his game. Keiran has been on the varsity level since his freshman campaign and as he continues to mature and develop the Bears will definitely rely on him to be a playmaker. Jordan Johnson Rubell | Defensive Back | Class of 2024 Jordan has everything college coaches seek in a shutdown corner. Rubell has long arms, gets hands on receivers to redirect them off the line, has superb footwork, has fluid hips, a smooth back pedal and can change direction quickly. Rubell has the ability to travel with the opposing team's best player and limit their productivity. Jordan is a big hitter, tackles well in the open field, attacks ball carriers with the proper angles and is such a smart player that he doesn't get beat often. Another Bear who has been a varsity starter since his freshman year, has multiple Power 5 offers, which include Bama, LSU, TCU, USC, Arkansas and Texas A&M. Dakories Moment | Defensive Back | Class of 2024 Moment caught my eyes during the first half of the Bears home contest against the Northwest Texans two weeks ago. Dakories is aggressive, physical with receivers at the line, doesn't give ground when he plays bump and run, has good footwork, good hip flexibility and tackles well out in space. Moment had an interception as Northwest was heading into end zone in the second half, he immediately turned up field and returned the ball upfield for a 40 yard gain. Dakories showed his speed and nose for the football. If the ball is in the air, he fights for it aggressively and defends most passes without drawing penalties  which shows he has good body control. Moment will be a key cog in the Bear defense as they head into the playoffs. Elizjah Richardson | Middle Linebacker | Class of 2024 Richardson is your classic middle linebacker. Elizjah is a thumper, a downhill linebacker, runs the lanes quickly, plays from sideline to sideline, has good closing speed and fights off blocks well. Richardson diagnoses plays quickly and reads his keys from the linebacker position well. He understands how to defend the passing lanes and has the speed to cover running backs out of the backfield. Richardson is the commander and chief of the Bear defense and has to be accounted for by opposing offenses. He has been making plays a starter at middle linebacker since 2020 as a freshman and college coaches should have Elizjah in their sights the next couple years. Ka' Morreun Pimpton | Wide Receiver | Class of 2023 Pimpton has next level size at the wide receiver position. At 6'6 220 lbs, Pimpton is mismatch for opposing defenses. Pimpton has long arms, has big catch radius, is a long strider with good speed and wins on the jump ball consistently. The Bears also line Pimpton up at tight end, where he is a force in the run game. Ka'Morreun is strong at the point of attack, a physical blocker who blocks until the whistle is blown and can be a force in the passing game from the tight end position. Pimpton is already gaining interest from colleges and has received an offer from Kansas and most recently one from UTSA. Adrian Lewis | Offensive Line | Class of 2024 Lewis stands out on the Bear offensive line standing at 6'6 350 lbs. Adrian is physical, has a strong punch, once he gets his hands on a defender he controls them and plays with a mean streak. Lewis has power in his leg drive and good feet when he pulls out to run block. Lewis saw some playing time as a freshmen for the Bears and as he continues develop his game, look for his stock to rise as the Bears look to get the Bear Cave rocking in the Bi-District round of the Texas High School Playoffs.
