Gardner Webb Mega Camp Day 1 Stand Outs

Gardner-Webb hosted its annual Mega Camp this weekend, one of the premier recruiting events in Western North Carolina. In his first offseason as head coach, Kris McCullough helped bring nearly 2,000 prospects to Boiling Springs over two days, with college coaches from every level on hand to evaluate talent. The camp featured six sessions across the weekend and has quickly become one of the largest exposure camps in the Carolinas. His leaping ability consistently stood out, as he routinely won 50/50 balls and made difficult catches look easy. Caleb Cruz looks the part of a high-level defensive back the moment he steps onto the field. Possessing good size, physicality, and impressive speed, Cruz checked every box college coaches look for at the cornerback position. He competed at a high level throughout the camp, showing the ability to play through contact and stay attached to receivers. His combination of strength, athleticism, and toughness allows him to be effective in both press coverage and open-field situations. Cruz is the type of corner who can challenge receivers at the line and run stride-for-stride downfield, making him a prospect worth keeping a close eye on moving forward. His quickness and explosiveness off the line of scrimmage made him extremely difficult to contain, consistently creating separation against defensive backs. Collins combines outstanding speed with sharp route-running ability, putting defenders in recovery mode almost immediately. What stood out most was his reliability as a pass catcher—he consistently attacked the football with his hands and rarely let a catchable pass hit the ground. Collins plays with a chip on his shoulder and competes every rep as if it's his last, making him one of the most impressive playmakers in attendance. The talented signal-caller impressed with his arm talent, accuracy, and overall command, but what truly separated him from the rest was his coachability. Throughout the camp, Street consistently absorbed instruction from coaches and immediately applied it in drills and competition periods. That ability to process information and make adjustments on the fly is a trait that translates directly to the next level.   Street showed confidence in every throwing session, delivering the ball with timing and precision while displaying the leadership expected from a top quarterback prospect. His performance did not go unnoticed, as he earned an offer from Gardner-Webb during the camp. With his combination of physical tools, football IQ, and willingness to learn, Street proved why he is one of the premier quarterback prospects in attendance.     Jaden Stanley put together one of the most impressive all-around performances of the weekend, competing at a high level on both sides of the ball. While he camped primarily as a defensive back, Stanley couldn't stay out of the spotlight offensively, consistently making plays and finding the end zone during competition periods.   What stood out most was his versatility and endurance. Stanley took rep after rep without any drop in performance, showcasing elite conditioning throughout the day. Whether he was locking down receivers in coverage or making plays with the ball in his hands, he looked comfortable and confident. His ability to excel on both sides of the ball speaks to his athleticism, football instincts, and competitive nature. Stanley proved he is much more than a one-position player and left a strong impression on everyone in attendance.     Lyric Parkins made the trip all the way from Pennsylvania, and he certainly made it worth the journey. The talented defensive back was one of the most consistent cover corners in attendance, rarely giving up completions throughout the day. Parkins relied heavily on his football IQ and route recognition skills, allowing him to stay a step ahead of receivers and put himself in position to make plays on the ball.   What stood out most was his competitiveness at the catch point. Even when receivers appeared to have a completion secured, Parkins consistently fought through their hands and disrupted the play. His combination of instincts, technique, and toughness made him a difficult matchup throughout the camp. Parkins proved he can compete with top talent from multiple states and was one of the standout defensive backs on Day 1.     Erza Meachem looked every bit the part of a next-level defensive back at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. A physical specimen with an impressive blend of size, strength, and speed, Meachem consistently stood out throughout the day. He was one of the most physical corners in attendance, routinely re-routing receivers at the line of scrimmage and disrupting timing before routes could even develop.   Beyond his physicality, Meachem showcased excellent ball skills and strong hands, making plays whenever the football came his way. He competed against some of the top receivers at the camp and more than held his own, using his length, athleticism, and technique to limit separation. With his measurable traits and competitive mindset, Meachem possesses all the tools college coaches look for in a high-level defensive back prospect.     ne of the top linebackers from Day 1 of the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp was Khali Charles. The physical linebacker made his presence felt throughout the event with his downhill mentality and aggressive style of play. Charles is a true bruiser at the position, attacking every rep with intensity and showing little hesitation when it comes to filling gaps or taking on contact.   His strength and power were evident from the start, allowing him to play through blocks and finish plays with authority. Charles thrives moving downhill, where his instincts and physicality become major assets. With his combination of toughness, strength, and relentless motor, he proved to be one of the most impressive linebacker prospects in attendance.
