One of my guiltiest pleasures when ranking prospects for Prep Redzone New Jersey is picking-and-choosing to highlight prospects that I thought had outstanding film. As part of our class of 2027 player rankings update, I get to highlight those prospects who put on a show with their highlight reels. Below are a handful of prospects who have film that left an impression on me.

Four Backs to Choose From, but You Can Only Play One

Much like everything else in our state, are you more South Jersey or North Jersey? Natural biases are formed, but the tape does not lie. In this feature, we highlight two backs from South Jersey and two that reside in Central-bordering-on-North Jersey. Despite all of them doing different things on the football field well, as our reader, who do you think happens to be the best?

I am unafraid to admit when I have a bias and understand that I have blindspots. A big one for me is for prospects who I share a first name with. [player_tooltip player_id='1880326' first='Brendan' last='Markovsky'] represents for Brendans all over the state well with his style of play for Cherokee. Unabashed to create for himself, I consider Markovsky a bit of a risk taker when toting the rock. A patient player, who coincidentally unafraid, will stop dead in the hole and look for a dramatic cut back. The moment green grass adorns his line of vision, we see Markovsky change gears to another speed that is distinctly faster than what he had previously shown. An agile player, I would consider him very light on his feet as he makes quick pressure and jump cuts. Markovsky projects out as a high-quality back in a zone scheme that will frustrate opposing defenses - especially those who are poor tacklers.

The most appealing thing I saw on film about [player_tooltip player_id='1958055' first='Ibby' last='Hudwell'] was how he has enough speed to take a toss and gain the sideline by taking a 45 degree angle to it. That same speed is noticed when straight-line running as well. Hudwell can hit the seam and simply outrun everybody. There is a strong preference by his coaches to scheme him to stress defenses horizontally towards the field. As much trust as his coaches have in him, he has that same amount - if not more - of trust in himself. We see on film the 2027 back have a tendency to bounce outside and rely on his athleticism rather than hitting the hole. Diving bodies are discarded accordingly as he easily eschews them and can withstand up-top tackles by by defensive backs.

Representing the Central and the North

With further tender, love and care, I believe [player_tooltip player_id='1906645' first='Jacob' last='Quiros'] has the potential to be a very productive back and a promising collegiate career. Quiros has clear vision once he gets to the second level and can, rather dramatically, reverse field if necessary. Also possessing nimble feet, Quiros dances at the second level and bodies fly past him attempting to make a tackle. What I like most about Quiros just might be his build. An offseason of hitting legs hard will aid him immensely. Thick, monstrous thighs do not lie. Adding that to his instinctual running ability will lead to good things for Highland Park.

Late in the season [player_tooltip player_id='1974865' first='Jamir' last='Hall'] was celebrated by the Union farmers for eclipsing the 1,000 yard rushing mark. Part of what males Hall such a threat is how he runs behind his pads with a low pad level. A patient runner, Hall allows things to develop in front of him before making a cut or a bounce. The stylistic approach to running allows poor tacklers to over pursue despite having an angle. There is some speed to Hall's game, as there are moments where he can split cover 2 safeties up the middle. While also being good at finding and exploiting creases, Hall has shown to hit the breaks hard when he fakes, causing defenders to buckle due to poor leverag.
