It's that time of year in Kentucky! Battle of the Regions! Where some of Kentucky's best middle school football players from across the state are gearing up to showcase their skills on the gridiron, and the competition promises to be fierce. With Region 4 having dominated the 2025 state championships back in November at every level 6th grade, 7th grade, and all three 8th grade divisions—there's a strong sense of confidence in the air. This year's games will see Region 4 stepping onto the field with a compelling argument for an edge over their rivals, fueled by their recent successes and not reaching last year's championship game at Battle of the Regions. Many of the athletes rotated thru the back field and lined up as receivers as they tried to find where everyone was a solid fit. From the looks of how rotations went, they may all play some dual roles between RB and WR. As the teams prepare to clash, let's look at our Class of 2030 Region 4 standouts at the QB and RB/WR positions.

Chris Perry (McCreary County) is coming off an outstanding 8th grade season where he eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark, showcasing both his consistency and big-play ability. Named Region 4 Player of the Year, Perry carried that momentum into November at the KYMSFA All-Star Classic, where he earned Offensive MVP honors, further cementing his status as a dynamic offensive threat.

Perry brings a truly explosive element to the offense, with the ability to turn any touch into a major gain. His burst, speed, and natural running instincts make him a constant threat out of the backfield. What adds even more value to his game is his versatility, lining up both in the backfield and at receiver, where he showed great hands and the ability to make tough catches in tight windows.
[player_tooltip player_id='1306161' first='Cole' last='Pinson'] of Pikeville is widely known for his impact on the defensive side of the ball, but he brings that same physical mindset and toughness when carrying the ball on offense. A two-time Defensive Player of the Game over the last two years in the KY Future Stars Game, Cole has proven himself as a competitor who thrives on big stages. At the Battle of the Regions, he'll be showcasing his abilities on offense, and his running style is sure to stand out.

Cole runs with the same intensity that he brings on defense. Downhill, physical, and punishing. While he's not a flashy, make-you-miss type of runner, he thrives on lowering his shoulder, attacking the line of scrimmage, and wearing down defenders. He does a great job of hitting holes with purpose and can create movement when needed, whether it's picking up tough yards or helping open lanes. Overall, Cole is a tough, no-nonsense runner whose physical style makes him a valuable asset and a tone-setter on offense.

One of Landen's standout traits is his poise in the pocket. Even when facing pressure, he remains calm and composed, making smart decisions and keeping his eyes downfield. As he continues to develop, refining his deep ball accuracy will take his game to the next level. With his current skill set accuracy in the short to mid-range game, mobility, and confidence under pressure, Landen is a well-rounded quarterback with a lot of upsides and the ability to lead his team effectively.
