We continue down the pipe of our North Dakota 2027 rankings this time breaking down the defensive line position. I said it recently in our recruiting superlatives, that this gorup is my favorite group from a recruiting perspective in North Dakota and is one of the best groups we have seen in recent years out of North Dakota as even when I scan into our top 10, every single prospect in my eyes will be playing college football in this group.

Starting off with our DL10 in the 2027 North Dakota class is Northern Cass's [player_tooltip player_id='1314753' first='Brody' last='Vander Wal']. The 6'0 245 pounder has a great and develping first step that is hard to miss at his size, as you can gauge quicckly the power he can generate with his hands too when he gets downhill. He is highly efficent run-stopper that has sound vision and instincts that sheds off blockers with agile hands and great short-area vison. The reps he shows off are from mostly defensive end, but the position flexibility is surely there to become an agile defensive tackle at the next-level in my eyes. No doubt Brody is a DL prospect that could move up by next update.

Jacob comes in as our DL9 in the 2027 North Dakota class and is one that has position flexibility to play on either side of the trenches at the next-level. His ability to accelerate while getting off blocks is what intrigues me right away when you watch the tape, as Jacob picks up speed quickly for a 6'3 240 pounder that surely has the frame in my eyes to add plenty of stock to it over the coming years. You also cannot miss on the motor that this kid has in the defensive trenches as you see it consistently throughout his tape showing it off. He also has a plethora of pass rush moves that he uses at his disposal that surely contribue well at the next-level. Another one that you could see moving up a few spots in this group.

You want a motor? I have to reflect back to what I saw when Preston was a freshmen at the NDSU Indy Camp as he had one of the best ones I saw amongst the defensive line group back then. Our DL8 in the class from LaMoure-Litchville-Marion, is a nasty bull-rusher in the 9-man ranks that shows off gritty hands at the point of attack that doesn't waste time running his blocker out of his stance quickly. That motor that I mentioned above, really translates in the last few steps you see on tape from Preston when he gets downhill to the carrier as oddly enough, that finish struck a chord with me a couple years ago in Fargo if I remember correctly. The 6'1 225 pounder has gotten so much more efficent with his pass-rush moves and gets off of blocks smoother than ever in his juinor tape as surely another one in this group of DL10-DL6 that surely can play at the next-level as this class is really deep.

A trench monster that consistently wins with his quick power generation on both sides of the ball, is Thompson's [player_tooltip player_id='1300130' first='Elijah' last='Conrad'], who comes in our most recent 2027 North Dakota rankings as our DL7 in the class, but again the position flexibility on both sides is wide open. Elijah has sound foot speed on both sides of the ball to run downhill and has the sudden hands at the point of attack that has a lot of power to get his blockers off-balance giving him a path into the backfield. The 6'3 220 pounder, is another one that is not a finished product when it comes to his frame, so there's plenty of upside to build on Elijah over the coming seasons ahead out of this class.

The most forceful hands you will see out of this grouping in my eyes, comes from our DL6 which is Bismarck's [player_tooltip player_id='1328151' first='Anthony' last='McArthur-Morin']. The 6'1 275 pounder is also one of the fastest power generator's you might be in this 2027 class as I saw it too at camp this summer, when someone is in Anthony's path, he has great pad-level and strength to get them out of his way and it doesn't take long either. You can also expect, that he's quick to the point of attack as a run-blocker as nearly every rep shows him right on or behind the line of scrimmage for tackles for a loss.
