As we continue our content from the 2027 South Dakota rankings release, we wanted to hit on some of the biggest stockrisers you will see hit our rankings last week. These young men are not only hard-hitters, great finishers, and have great football IQs, but I even called myself out on a few of these athletes of ones that could "make me kick myself" that I didn't have them higher on this update from the jump. We take a hard look from Sioux Falls to Rapid City to see who rose this most upwards in this class.

It doesn't take long to see when you pop on the tape from Kade's junior season at Tea Area, that this young man possesses the change of direction and instincts to be a menace in pass coverage. He's balanced with what he offers as a linebacker as he also can penetrate off blocks quickly to find the ball carrier in the backfield in a quick pinch. He's surely one of my favorite swiss-army knifes in this 2027 South Dakota class that plays with a strong football IQ anywhere he lines up which aligns for great position flexibility at the next-level. I can certainly almost assure this kid is not done jumping up our rankings.

Easton is up nearly 20 spots from our last 2027 South Dakota rankings update as one of the most gifted offensive linemen amongst our stockrisers from a technique perspective. The 6'0 240 pounder from Harrisburg, demonstrates quickly that he is a block until that whistle blows offensive linemen as his first clip on his junior tape not only showed great hand placement, pad-level, and footwork but he showed what a superb finisher he is at the point of attack. He's also has the foot speed you want in your OL room as a pulling guard. I feel he could play muliple spots in the offensive trenches at the next-level, but man what I see as a guard would really intrigue me as a evaluator. Don't let the size misguide you, as I would surely take a shot on Easton if I were a D2 recruiter.

Moving up from the watchlist to inside our top 70 overall in the South Dakota 2027 class is [player_tooltip player_id='1320799' first='Maximus' last='Schmitz'] of Pierre T.F. Riggs. Our DL7 in the class, has really good hand technique getting off blocks and the tape shows a swift change of direction that accelerates right into the ball carrier. The 6'2 225 pounder, was recently at our winter Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase and finished in my top-tier amongst the defensive line group from my own eval as well. Maximus also can generate power quickly as it doesn't take long to tell that this young man plays with a powering motor, great fluid movement to drive the offensive trenches off their feet. I will say this now, I feel Maximus could be a prospect that will have me kicking myself that I did not have him higher from the jump once we get into summer camps.

Jakobe is our new DB4 in the SD 2027 class that climbed up with his recent tape from the watchlist and is one that despite the size at the moment, is quite rangy for those measurables he has at his disposal. He is a defensive back that you can't miss on the work ethic he has as he'll be a player in your secondary that will go run down a ball carrier downfield even being a ways from the play. He's also a great ball-tracker at corner and I think there's even more upside he could develop with that skillset going forward. He was an honorable mention on the All-Metro team in the 2025 season and could certainly be a jumper amongst this DB group.

Trequin is another "call up" from the watch list that moved way up our 2027 SD rankings and I will already say it, there is no doubt he probably will move up again by next update. This kid knows how to pouce into the backfield with use of his vision and instincts when the screen play comes to his side of the field. You can feel the length he has to utilize in pass coverage as the 6'1 170 pounder has long arms to use his advantage when intermediate routes come his way. My gut says Trequin could go up a handful of DBs spots by next update.

Next we meet the young man who led the state of South Dakota last year in tackles with 161, which came from [player_tooltip player_id='1293176' first='Reed' last='Lindberg'] of Rapid City Central. It doesn't take long to see the high motor that Reed plays with when he gets downhill as he shows off to be a human hit stick on his first on tape. The 6'1 200 pounder also plays with solid range and I swear, not only was he the leading tackler in South Dakota last year, but this young man could be in my top-tier for hardest hitters in the state too. Super light D2 interest at the moment and if I were a D2 school in the RMAC or NSIC, I would get on Reed quickly!
