Van Meter came up a win short of a state title last season. The Bulldogs have maintained their bite in 2026, winning their last six contests since a season-opening setback to Class 3A Des Moines Christian (7-0). At the controls at Van Meter is the sophomore Lundy. He’s been dynamite in his first year starting behind center. That certainly was the case Friday when he threw for 86 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 159 yards (8.8 YPC) and three scores in a 42-21 victory against visiting Grand View Christian. Lundy is a tremendous athlete with speed and elusiveness. The future is now, and it’s bright.

After a season where Van Meter turned things around and made up for a 3-2 start, Henry Lounsbury was critical in the Bulldogs’ seven-straight wins and run to the 2A state title game. This coming season, the expectation is that Keenan Lundy Keenan Lundy 6'1" | 150 lbs | QB/DB Van Meter | 2029 IA will take over the starting job for the central Iowa juggernaut.

An impact player on the basketball squad for VM this winter, Lundy started 22-of-23 games, averaging 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Starting and contributing as a freshman anywhere is difficult, but if Lundy can take that on-court confidence and competitence to the gridiron, the 6-foot-1 gunslinger could be the next star QB for the Bulldogs that takes them back to the promised land.
