Week 6 in the Kansas City area provided plenty of standouts Friday night and another one on Saturday.
Here is a quick look at some of the top individual performances:
RB/S [player_tooltip player_id="211432" first="Ellis" last="Edwards"], 5-10, 170, St. Michael the Archangel, 2022
The lone Saturday star on this list, the Guardians traveled to Southwest Missouri and picked up a 47-8 win over Diamond. Edwards did a little bit of everything, grabbing an interception on defense, then running for 92 yards and three touchdowns and then added three catches for 67 yards and another score. Quarterback Dillon Zaun threw for 267 yards and a pair of scores to help St. Michael improve to 3-2.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="177912" first="Nick" last="Karr"], 5-11, 200, Raymore-Peculiar, 2022
The defending Class 6 champs won for a second game in a row and improved to 4-2 on the year with a 36-24 win over Blue Springs South. Karr, who has an offer from NAIA Graceland, accounted for three of those touchdowns. He caught a 50-yard pass from QB [player_tooltip player_id="103410" first="Zander" last="Dombrowski"] and then added TD runs of 6 and 5 yards. He finished with 194 yards on 27 carries.
WR [player_tooltip player_id="211433" first="Mason" last="Rumsey"], 6-3, 170, Lafayette County, 2022
A two-star standout — he was an all-state basketball player last year — Rumsey had a big game in the Huskers’ 39-0 win over Holden He had four catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns, one spanning 69 yards and the other 24 yards. Quarterback Brady Hayes was 8 for 12 for 253 yards and three touchdowns, throwing the other one to Camden Russell, who had two catches for 92 yards.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="96261" first="KJ" last="Smith"], 5-9, 180, Kearney, 2022
When Smith gets going, Kearney is tough to stop. That was the case in a 42-14 win against Winnetonka, where the Bulldogs’ offensive line opened up holes for Smith all night, but that is easy to do with a right tackle like [player_tooltip player_id="177900" first="Keanon" last="McNally"], a Tulane commit that is 6-foot-10 and 285 pounds. Smith ran 24 times for 153 yards and four touchdowns and added a 2-point conversion as well. All told, the Bulldogs ran for 366 yards.
WR [player_tooltip player_id="177054" first="Caden" last="Dennis"], 6-2, 170, Liberty, 2022
Dennis did a little bit of everything in the Blue Jays’ 59-30 win over Columbia Rock Bridge. This was the most points scored by Liberty since 2010. Dennis had four catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns, spanning 48 yards and 59 yards. He also had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter, which came after the Bruins had cut a 28-point deficit down to two scores. Honorable mention went to quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="211438" first="Tyler" last="Lininger"], who was 14 for 18 for 396 yards and four TDs, while running back [player_tooltip player_id="37448" first="Wentric" last="Williams III"] ran for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
RB [player_tooltip player_id="199039" first="Carson" last="Smith"], 6-2, 170, Oak Grove, 2022
The Panthers were tied 14-14 with Pleasant Hill after three quarters but picked up a 34-27 win. Smith did his part with four touchdown runs including one in the fourth quarter that gave Oak Grove a two-score lead. He finished with 25 carries for 146 yards and is averaging 102.6 yards per game in the Panthers’ run-heavy offense. In this game, of the 368 yards Oak Grove gained, 332 came on the ground.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="211434" first="Alex" last="Benassi"], 6-3, 165, Lee’s Summit, 2022
Down 20-7 going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers rallied to beat North Kansas City. Benassi led an offense that ran 79 plays and scored twice in the fourth to win. He accounted for the game-winning touchdown on a 3-yard run with less than two minutes to play. Through the air he was 21 for 47 for 241 yards and a touchdown pass. His top target was 6-3 sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="211437" first="David" last="Dossett"], who finished with seven catches for 103 yards.
WR [player_tooltip player_id="177938" first="Isaiah" last="Mozee"], 5-11, 165, Lee’s Summit North, 2025
The freshman had four catches for 113 yards and two touchdowns as the Broncos blew out Blue Springs, 35-0. Mozee had touchdown catches of 45 and 52 yards from [player_tooltip player_id="171825" first="Tre" last="Baker"] — who was 10 for 14 for 252 yards and three touchdowns — and Lee’s Summit North improved to 6-0. A day after this performance, Mozee tweeted he landed an offer from Missouri. Add that to the list of Miami (Ohio), Kansas and Iowa.
