IOWA CITY - Regina Catholic hosted Pleasantville in a battle of 1A powers for a chance at the state semifinals in the UNI-Dome next week.

Off to a quick start with explosive plays, forcing key turnovers and containing the Trojans offense for the majority of the game, the Regals handled Pleasantville, 49-7.

One of the best athletes the state of Iowa has to offer in its loaded Class of 2027, [player_tooltip player_id='1197483' first='Braylon' last='Bingham'] showcased his abilities on both sides of the ball, even if in a tough loss on Friday night.

An elusive runner, Bingham made Cooper DeJean-like plays at quarterback for Pleasantville, converting on third or fourth and long when the Trojans needed him most to have a shot at getting back in the game. Of course, the powerhouse that is Regina is a lot to overcome, but Bingham's 29 rushes for 114 yards and one touchdown did all he could to keep his team in it.

Constantly under pressure from [player_tooltip player_id='466364' first='Tate' last='Wallace'] and the rest of the Regal DL, Bingham made the most of the constant attack, taking off from time to time and finding receivers when he was able to stay upright. He completed eight passes for 118 yards, including a 48-yard shot to senior receiver, Ethan King.

A sideline-to-sideline safety that finds the ball and will deliver a punishing hit, Bingham's size, speed and athleticism are a deadly combo for Pleasantville. Enough to earn an offer from Iowa State as a safety and Iowa as a linebacker.

Bingham's most reliable receiver on the night was his junior classmate, [player_tooltip player_id='2044009' first='Brayden' last='Kennedy']. The 6-foot, 195-pound tight end caught five passes for 46 yards, aiding in Bingham's efforts to keep drives going.

On defense, Kennedy was around the ball and Regina QB, [player_tooltip player_id='1657101' first='Kyle' last='Tracy'] as much as possible. One of the few Pleasantville defenders that made things difficult on the Regal gunslinger, he didn't come up with a sack or a tackle-for-loss (TFL), but Kennedy was one of the more disruptive pass-rushers for the Trojans.

The second Kennedy to make the list of standouts for Pleasantville, [player_tooltip player_id='2044069' first='Cooper' last='Kennedy'] was vital on the defensive side of the ball for the Trojans.

Tied for the team-lead with Bingham in tackles, Kennedy put together 4.5, adding a TFL for the Trojans. The most impressive play of the evening for Kennedy came in the backfield when he met Regina running back, [player_tooltip player_id='1197445' first='Savion' last='Miller'] behind the line of scrimmage. Facing a future Power 4 RB that routinely fought off defenders and maintained his balance all night in the backfield for the TFL was a bright spot for Kennedy and Pleasantville.

A name that popped up on my radar this last offseason, [player_tooltip player_id='2044013' first='Will' last='Litton'] joined the Regina football squad for the first time this year. A standout basketball and baseball player for the Regals, Litton opted to give the gridiron a try this fall, and he's been a big positive for Regina.

A tight end and defensive end hybrid, Litton's biggest impact has come on the defensive side of the ball, posting 28.5 tackles, nine TFLs and three sacks. Opposite of Wallace, who finished with three sacks on Friday, added six tackles and 1.5 TFLs, adding to the heaps of pressure Bingham faced.

The starting middle linebacker for the Regals, [player_tooltip player_id='2044076' first='Luke' last='Hamilton'] may not get the spotlight on defense that his teammate with offers from Minnesota and Tennessee has in Wallace, but he leads Regina in tackles so far this season with 44.5.

Several inches and about 50-pounds lighter than Wallace, Hamilton isn't the first player who catches one's eye on the Regal roster, but he makes plays on defense. Sent on blitzes, stopping the run game in its tracks and providing coverage over the middle of the field, Hamilton is one of the most important pieces for Regina's defensive efforts, even though he may not play Division I ball like Wallace.
