Earlier this week, we updated our 2027 prospect rankings to feature the top 150 juniors in the state of Oklahoma. Over the next several days, we'll be jumping into the 2027 class and breaking down a ton of the prospects that have stood out to us this season. In this breakdown, we continue looking at the 2027 class by taking a look at the top five newcomers in the latest ranking update. All five of these prospects were not necessarily on our radar back in the summer but that is not the case now. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2027 prospect breakdowns!

Our top newcomer in this update is Norman North's [player_tooltip player_id='1717311' first='Joshua' last='Williams'] and we have him slotted at linebacker even though when you throw on the tape, he is absolutely wrecking shop as an edge rusher on the line of scrimmage. When you're talking about Williams as a high school football player, he is an absolutely dominant defensive end and it doesn't take much time looking at the film to see just that. But when you're talking about him as a prospect for the next level, he looks more like a linebacker and we don't think that transition will be hard at all. He has a motor that doesn't seem to slow down and he's already on the radar of many programs.

A lot of what we said about Williams can be said again here with Southeast standout [player_tooltip player_id='1831885' first='Damon' last='Davis'] because he has hands down been one of the top defensive linemen in the state this season. He's been living in opposing backfields and has been at or near the top of the list in terms of sacks this season. But with his size at 6'2 and 225 pounds, he probably projects to a linebacker and will inevitably make the same move as Williams when it comes to the next level. But the key here is that he's going to end up at the next level. Earlier this fall, Davis earned his first D1 offer from Tulsa and we have a feeling that the offer train won't slow down.

Southeast has two newcomers in this ranking update as [player_tooltip player_id='1831887' first='Carlton' last='Evans'] has emerged as a legitimate D1 prospect this fall. Like his teammate Davis, Evans recently picked up an offer from Tulsa while on a visit to the 918. Evans is currently listed as an athlete for what he's able to do on both sides of the ball but it wouldn't be surprising to see him move to strictly DB when it comes to his future as a prospect. At 6'3, Evans is really impressing coaches with his abilities on the defensive side of the ball in the secondary. He's a prospect that is debuting in a high spot but we definitely want to see more of him when his full junior film comes out this winter.

We wrote about Ada offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1834818' first='Jake' last='Matthews'] last month as part of our "First Look Friday" series and he was a no brainer to add to the 2027 rankings in this update. He's debuting in the Top 50 and is quickly climbing the list for that OL position group. Matthews really impressed us on film last month and he looks like a 2027 prospect that has a very high ceiling because of the versatility he can bring to the offensive line. Matthews made the rounds at various college camps this summer and also impressed there. He's a 2027 prospect that's still flying under the radar but he could really blow up in the winter months when his film makes the rounds.

Guthrie defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='913667' first='Kade' last='Barton'] is our final newcomer on this breakdown and we just watched him in action two weeks ago. We've watched a lot of football in person this season. But Barton's performance in their week eight win over Altus might have been the best individual performance we've seen from a defensive player this season. He was a one-man wrecking crew on the line of scrimmage and was consistently in the backfield. Barton immediately passed the eye test when we saw him before the game and then the play matched the size. He's another player that could shoot up the ranks when we see his full body of work this season.
