The Broncos gave up a 60-yard touchdown with 49 seconds left that ended up being the game-winner. Mustang would get the ball into Stillwater territory but they ran out of time and a Hail Mary attempt was incomplete. For the full game recap, check it out RIGHT HERE. However, the Broncos have several prospects that really stood out throughout the night. They have guys that everyone in the state knows about at this point and a few that you may not know. We take a look at five of the top standouts from their game with Stillwater on Friday night. [player_tooltip player_id="38670" first="Andre" last="Dollar"] | 2022 Tight End (Oregon Commit) Man it was great to see Mustang tight end [player_tooltip player_id="38670" first="Andre" last="Dollar"] back in the lineup again. Okay, we know he played in week one against Yukon but after he missed all of 2020, it was good to see him back on the field and looking incredibly dominant. Dollar caught a pair of touchdowns in the back of the end zone that took serious athletic ability on his part and he was able to show off the hands on those two spectacular plays. The last touchdown would have been the play of the game if the Gundy Miracle didn’t happen a few minutes later. With Mustang facing fourth and goal from the Stillwater 22-yard line, quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="200526" first="Tristen" last="Russell"] launched a pass into the back of the end zone and Dollar made the reception and dragged his toes in bounds. It was a fantastic play and showed that Dollar is indeed the top tight end prospect in the state’s 2022 class and it’s not close. Dollar has been committed to Oregon for a long time now. That hasn’t changed and he was in fact, one of the first prospects in the state’s 2022 class to commit. One other thing that really impressed us was the physicality he played with in the running game. That’s what Mustang did throughout the night as they ran the ball 52 times and only passed it 19 times. Because of that, Dollar was used as a blocker on the end of the line or even a lead blocker as a fullback or what Mustang calls their "Bronco" position. He was very fun to watch and is a big weapon on Mustang’s offense. [player_tooltip player_id="200525" first="Chance" last="Johnson"] | 2022 Kicker It’s not too often that we feature a kicker on one of these scouting reports, but it’s also not very often that we see a kicker routinely bomb kickoffs out of the back of the end zone and that’s exactly what Mustang’s [player_tooltip player_id="200525" first="Chance" last="Johnson"] did. And when we say bombs, we’re saying the kickoffs would land five to ten yards BEHIND the back of the end zone. Bombs. I’ve watched a lot of high school football in the last 15 years. And the last kicker I can remember that routinely was booting kickoffs like that was former Union kicker Tress Way, who has been with the Washington Football Team since 2014. Now, Johnson wasn’t handling extra points and the Broncos didn’t attempt any field goals. In fact, they only punted once and it was partially blocked by Stillwater. But Johnson has an absolute power leg that we haven’t seen in a while. Before the second half, Johnson was on the field and calmly and routinely bombing 50-55 yard punts like they were nothing. Now, it wasn’t in a game and they didn’t have a live rush but still. After some conversations with some people from Mustang up in the press box, it sounds like Johnson is a soccer player and that’s where his focus has been. And that might be his first passion. But there should be plenty of colleges that look into this kid because routinely putting kickoffs out of the back of the end zone is a very underrated weapon in football. Ask any special teams coordinator. [player_tooltip player_id="38777" first="Jacobe" last="Johnson"] | 2023 Defensive Back Just like with Dollar, junior standout [player_tooltip player_id="38777" first="Jacobe" last="Johnson"] is considered one of the best college prospects in the state’s 2023 class. Unlike Dollar, that distinction of being one of the best is good for two sports. Johnson is arguably the best "dual-sport" athlete in Oklahoma today as he holds multiple D1 offers from multiple power five programs in football and in basketball. For several schools, they’ve offered him in both sports. On Friday night against Stillwater, we came away very impressed with Johnson. One thing we’ve been waiting for is when he would have that lightbulb moment and understand he’s arguably the best athlete on the field every time he steps on the field and then plays like it. He was very physical and aggressive on the defensive side of the ball which was something we certainly wanted to see after he missed some time last year with an injury. On offense, Johnson wasn’t utilized as much as the Broncos primarily ran the ball. But he did make a spectacular touchdown reception in the first half against the Pioneers. On offense, that will be Johnson’s job description. To be that home run threat that can go the distance any time he catches the ball. But he was at his best on the defensive side of the ball and as a prospect, that’s where he should be recruited at the DB position. [player_tooltip player_id="38795" first="Keegan" last="Bass"] | 2023 Athlete Joining Johnson in that dual-sport athlete department is fellow junior standout [player_tooltip player_id="38795" first="Keegan" last="Bass"]. The Mustang standout is also a key part of Mustang’s basketball team but we were very impressed with his abilities on the gridiron on Friday night. We had the Mustang standout in our last ranking update over the summer featuring the Top 100 juniors in Oklahoma with Bass as the final entry at #100. When the ranking update happens, Bass will more than likely make a pretty strong leap up the ranking. He’s incredibly versatile and we knew that coming in but it was another thing to see it with our own eyes. Bass can return kicks, was one of Mustang’s leading receivers and also lined up in the backfield and took handoffs and ran the ball. Overall, Bass finished with six carries for 27 yards and also had four receptions for 59 yards. We like the versatility that Bass plays with and it really didn’t matter what he was doing, whether it was carrying the ball as a running back or catching it as a wide receiver, Bass was making plays. Like Johnson, it’ll be interesting to see where Bass ends up when it comes to the next level. Will he be on the hardwood or the gridiron? We can’t speak as much for the basketball side of things, but we were impressed with the skills he showed on the gridiron on Friday. [player_tooltip player_id="200526" first="Tristen" last="Russell"] | 2023 Quarterback So our final prospect is not someone we thought we would be writing about before the game began but it was very apparent that he earned his spot and that’s junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="200526" first="Tristen" last="Russell"]. Let’s get some of the other stuff out of the way first. Russell is a small quarterback and the 2023 QB class in Oklahoma has some really good prospects in it. However, Russell was really impressive on Friday night against a Stillwater defense that has some legitimate stars. What stood out to us about Russell is the way he plays the game. He has a complete "gunsligner" mentality where he will do whatever he has to do to make something out of nothing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but Russell was giving everything he had on every single play and that’s extremely respectable. As we mentioned, Russell isn’t the biggest quarterback in the state and that did not matter as he ended up leading the team with 17 carries on the night and he was not afraid to throw his body around near the line of scrimmage, including on a short touchdown run where he jumped over his offensive line to reach the ball out over the goal line. Russell also has a cannon of an arm as well. He uncorked several deep balls that were perfectly placed for his receivers to go make a play. I don’t know what the ceiling is for a prospect like Russell but he definitely impressed us with his performance on Friday night.
