Tayten Rummel Tayten Rummel 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB/RB Algona | 2028 State IA has been building a strong resume this offseason as a continuous standout at the camps he’s gone to, and he is primed for a huge breakout campaign leading the way for the Bulldogs’ defense. As a sophomore, Rummel finished 3rd on the team with 41.5 tackles, 7 TFLs, and a team-high 4 sacks. A physical and aggressive tackler, Rummel worked very well blitzing from his MLB position to force pressure in the backfield as well as disrupting the pocket, being able to shut down the ball-carrier dead in their tracks while also showing consistent hustle in chasing down players aiming outside the perimeter. Rummel has already generated a ton of attention from D1 and D2 scouts, and perhaps a big season in 2026 could solidify his position as a priority target at the FBS level by his senior year.

An easy selection for First Team All-Eye Test and First-off-the-Bus recognition, Rummel was nothing short of dominant during one of the toughest, most physical, put-up-or-shut-up drills we saw all summer, and he was manhandling RBs with as much physicality, strength, and aggression as we saw from a LB in a while. Big collisions, technically-sound, overpowering tackles, and eating blocking attempts for breakfast, Rummel was a Man Amongst Boys in Brookings last month.

Rummel came onto our radar after a freshman season of 2024 that saw him contribute on the varsity. We wrote that a breakout appeared to be underway with his play through the first part of this past campaign and vowed to check in on how it turned out. We’re back to do just that after he finished with 41.5 tackles, 20 of which were of the solo variety. He delivered seven tackles for loss and four sacks as well. Rummel also flashed potential as a H-Back/TE/FB, as we can witness during the 10th-grade highlights of his blocking. While playing an important role in that regard, his impact was greater at linebacker. That shows up during his overall seasonal highlight tape. A versatile defender, Rummel is moved around the formation and looks comfortable wherever that may be. A big part of the success stems from his ability to identify what’s coming and getting downhill in a hurry. Rummel carries out his assignments within the framework of the defense and is a technically-sound tackler. His projectable frame can add plenty of good weight and strength, which gives him a sizable ceiling and makes him one to track during the next few seasons.

Rummel looks the part getting off of the bus and confirms it with his play on the field. He got his feet wet as a freshman on last year’s varsity, delivering 11.0 tackles. Graduation losses have provided more opportunities in 2025, and Rummel has run with them. Through his team’s first four games, the 10th-grader has produced 19.5 tackles (12 solo, 6.0 TFL) and 4.0 sacks. He’s just starting to compile highlights for his sophomore season, which can be found on his Hudl page. Rummel definitely has a knack for chasing down the quarterback with straight-line speed and lateral quickness. He appears to be adept at pre-snap reads and then immediate diagnoses after the ball is in play, allowing for him to play very fast.
