Port Washington vs Portage: Top Prospects to Know

The defense controlled the first half of this game. However, the offensive talent on both squads were too good to keep them quiet. Check out who impressed and stood out from this Friday night match-up.    Kade is explosive every time he touches the field. While being an undersized receiver it does not stop him from being a complete pass catcher for the Pirates. You can line him up on the outside and he can take the top off of the defense with his elite speed. Put Kade in the slot and he can nestle into the middle of the field to move the sicks or he can take screen pass and make defenders miss in open space. His athletic ability is off of the charts. Kade's skills and attributes are going to make one of the top Junior receivers for this and next season.     Izaiah has range to cover all of the gridiron. It doesn't matter where on the field the ball is at; Izaiah will be there. He has terrific size and athleticism to shoot the gaps to blow up plays behind the LOS or roam the middle of the filed to clean up the ball carriers. The athleticism helps him in pass coverage where he can stay with smaller quicker running backs. Izaiah's motor might be his best attribute. No plays are taken off and he goes full throttle on every snap. Izaiah was the best player on the field and continues to improve every game.     Jack has poise that not many quarterbacks have; let alone a sophomore QB. He took a lot of big hits against Portage but every time he would get hit, he would get back up. His toughness was key to Port Washington's comeback win. He has total command of the offense and is never panics when the defense surprises him. Jack has a very strong arm and rifles the football to his receivers with excellent accuracy. The ball seems to just zip right out of his hands. Jack is just scratching the surface of his potential. Definitely a name to watch for the next 3 years.     Logan is the heart and soul of the Pirates offense. For most of the game, anytime time Port Washington would run to his side they would have success. Logan can get vertical or horizontal very quickly to make any block necessary. It doesn't matter if he is down blocking, pulling, or double teaming; Logan will make an impact in the run game. He is very quick off of the snap and can adjust on the fly to any of the different defensive alignments. Logan is a under the radar senior to know for this year.     Colton is extremely versatile for Port Washington. He is strong enough to handle the physically of the run game but athletic enough to stay with receivers for 20 yards down the field. He is very intelligent and always seems to understand his assignment and where he has to be on the field. Colton has the vision to see all across the field and make plays in the secondary or in the front seven. As a safety he can scorch up to the LOS and make a play on the offensive player. Colton was great on Friday night in all aspects of the game.     Garrett is a game wrecker on the defensive line for Port Washington. He may not be the biggest nose tackle or the fastest but there is no one on the field that brings it like Garrett does. His effort and tenacity do wonders for the Pirates defense. Garrett may not always end up on the stat sheet but all of the disruption that he makes helps his fellow teammates make plays behind him. Garrett is a grinder who make his teammates better in a plethora of ways.     O'Neil is a hard nose downhill runner. His center of gravity and pads are so low to the ground that he will rarely go down on the first tackle or if he does go down, O'Neil will end up blasting the defender for 2-3 extra yards. Quietly he is fast for his size. He has the patience to wait for a hole to open and explode when it does open. O'Neil had a big 2nd half which helped the Pirates come back to beat the Warriors. I think every team in the state could use a back with his running style.     Jaxson is a powerful mauler on the Portage offensive line. He has impressive footwork and always seems to be in the right position when blocking. He will out leverage bigger defensive players. Jaxson has the mental toughness and stamina to be impactful not only on the offensive line but also the defensive line. It doesn't matter where Jaxson is playing, his impact is undeniably strong and very noticeable. Watch out for this junior, bruising offensive lineman over the next two seasons.     Tristan packs a punch at linebacker. He may be smaller than other players on the field but don't let that fool you; he will lay any offensive player out. Tristan is at his best when he is can read his keys, react to the play, and fire to the running back. As a blitzer, he is so strong and powerful that anytime Tristan blitzes he wallops bigger offensive lineman to disrupt the backfield. Tristan was an instant impact linebacker, and I came away highly impressed with his skills on Friday night.     Alex is a multipurpose weapon for Portage. On offense he is a terrific running back who has the speed to find the edge on the outside. His athleticism stands out on every play even if he is not carrying the ball. On defense, Alex is a standout linebacker. He can maneuver around blockers to seize the ball carrier. He is a very slippery linebacker. If that is in coverage or in the run game Alex always seems to be holding his own. He brings the juice every time he steps foot on the field, and it definitely was displayed against Port Washington.
