BISHOP McGUINNESS AT DEER CREEK

Deer Creek beat Bishop McGuinness 53-17 in the season opener a year ago but both teams look very different as we head into the 2025 football season. Deer Creek hired a new offensive and defensive coordinator this offseason and they have to replace three-year starter Grady Adamson (Georgia Tech signee) at the quarterback position. But they aren't lacking talent on the offensive side of the ball. For Bishop McGuinness, this is an opportunity to get the season off to a fast start. The Irish face a tough non-district schedule and a win this week should give them some momentum. Class 5A is looking deeper and deeper and the Irish, led by a strong offensive line and a deep running back position should be one of the teams that make plenty of noise this season.

BIXBY VS OWASSO (THURSDAY @ TU)

For the fourth straight season, Bixby and Owasso will square off in a season opener. And the last time these two met, it was with a state title on the line and Bixby capturing a seventh straight title in an overtime classic. The Spartans bring back 18 starters from last year's team and lead the state in Preseason All State selections with six coming into the year. Owasso beat Bixby 40-21 in the season opener a year ago and bring back Hall Of Fame head coach Bill Blankenship, along with arguably the best group of skill players in Class 6A-1 and perhaps the state. All signs point to another instant classic when these two kick off the season on Thursday at TU.

CASCIA HALL AT HOLLAND HALL

It's the annual "Hall Brawl" as Cascia Hall makes the trip over to Holland Hall. This rivalry clash has been incredibly competitive over the last few years. Cascia Hall has the benefit of winning three straight in the series but all three wins have come by a combined ten points. The Commandos won 29-28 last season and they come into the year with arguably the top quarterback in Class 3A. Head coach Joe Medina is also back for his 27th season and with a win Friday, he'll have 260 wins as Cascia Hall's head coach. Holland Hall brings back six starters on offense and another six starters on defense. We can only hope that this week's match-up is as close as the last three.

DEL CITY AT EDMOND MEMORIAL

Edmond Memorial hosts Del City and this has the makings to be a very competitive game. Last season, it wasn't competitive. Edmond Memorial rolled to a 35-0 victory. But the offense will look different after they replace a four-year starter in David McComb (Kansas signee) but the defense brings back everyone from last season. Del City has to replace the majority of their starters but that doesn't mean they are lacking talent. They have a Player Of The Year finalist from a year ago and plenty of talent around him, ready to have that breakout moment. While last season was a shutout victory for the Bulldogs, this season could be much more competitive.

GUTHRIE AT TUTTLE (THURSDAY)

We get last year's 5A runner up going on the road to face last year's 4A runner up on Thursday night as Tuttle hosts Guthrie. These two teams played an instant classic last season. It was tied at 24 but Tuttle would score in the final minute to steal the game and set the tone for their run all the way to the state championship game. The Tigers have arguably the best quarterback in Class 4A and perhaps the state. Guthrie brings back half of their starters from last year and they've won two out of the last three against Tuttle. Both teams made it to Edmond last season, playing for a state championship. They both hope Thursday's opener is the start of another title run.

JENKS AT EDMOND SANTA FE

The Adam Gaylor era at Jenks begins with a road game against Edmond Santa Fe on Friday night. And this is a very intriguing match-up on the line of scrimmage. Edmond Santa Fe's defensive line has two D1 commits while Jenks counters with their offensive line having multiple D1 prospects. Jenks is looking to get back to contending for state championships after falling in a triple overtime thriller in the semifinals. For Edmond Santa Fe, the Wolves want to get back to just competing week in and week out after they went 1-9 last season.

LAWTON MACARTHUR AT ELGIN

Elgin is coming into this season after capturing their first state championship in school history so needless to say, the vibes are high with the Owls this season. They open the year against Lawton MacArthur, a team they beat 28-7 last season. But the Highlanders have multiple D1 commits and plenty of talent on both sides of the ball to make this game interesting. And for Elgin, they will have a new starting quarterback for the first time in a few years and have to replace two D1 signees on the offensive line. But they might have the best running back in Class 4A this season. We have a feeling that this game could end up providing some fireworks on Friday.

McALESTER AT BROKEN BOW

In southeastern Oklahoma, we get a showdown between Broken Bow and McAlester and it wouldn't surprise us if both teams exceed all preseason expectations. McAlester beat Broken Bow 37-26 last season but the Buffaloes are going to look different this season. Longtime Blanchard head coach Jeff Craig has taken over the Buffaloes while Broken Bow will be guided by arguably the most electric football player in the state at the quarterback position. It wouldn't be surprising if both teams end up making a run to Edmond in December. So regardless of how this game shakes out on Friday night, watch out for both of these teams to make plenty of noise.

MUSKOGEE AT BOOKER T WASHINGTON

It's a match-up featuring first year head coaches but it's a unique one here as Booker T Washington hosts Muskogee. Booker T Washington is led by Nate Goodman and this is his first head coaching job while Muskogee is led by Dale Condict and he had two decades of dominance at Wagoner before taking the Rougher job this offseason. The Roughers beat the Hornets 56-21 last season but this year's Muskogee team is going to look quite different. On the other side, you have a Booker T Washington team that is looking to build off last season's run to the district championship. Whoever wins Friday will set the tone for how their season is going to go.

SALLISAW AT PRYOR

Pryor is opening a new football stadium on Friday night with one of the best games of week zero. The Tigers host Sallisaw in a match-up of a 5A top five team against a 4A top five team. Both teams appear to be ready to take the next step in 2025 and really contend in their respective class. Both teams also bring back the majority of their starters and Friday's game should be a clash of styles. Pryor's offense is led by one of the best quarterbacks in Class 5A and they averaged nearly 40 points per game last season. Sallisaw has a deep stable of running backs and their goal will be to churn up yardage and keep Pryor's offense on the sidelines on Friday night.
