Catoosa Camp Standouts

These seven players stood out while we were there and played really well while we were in attendance. Check out our&nbsp;<strong><a href="https://www.youtube.com/@PrepRedzoneOklahoma">YouTube Channel</a></strong>&nbsp;for highlights from Friday's camp!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1704522' first='Gabe' last='Gurley'] - 2029 Quarterback - Cushing</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>All signs point towards Cushing 2029 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1704522' first='Gabe' last='Gurley'] being their next standout quarterback. And if you've followed Cushing football over the last decade, you know that this is a program that produces quarterbacks at a very high level. Gurley moved over to Cushing this spring from Ada. He had somewhat of a slow start during the 7v7 period on Friday but when things sped up and it was the team period, with a live rush, Gurley absolutely flourished. The competition ratcheted up and so did his play. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1831093' first='Justice' last='Elliott'] - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman - Cushing</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Cushing 2027 offensive and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1831093' first='Justice' last='Elliott'] is the lone new name on this breakdown that we didn't know much about going into Friday's camp. Elliott moved to the line of scrimmage before last season and he was absolutely dominant on the defensive side of the ball. During 1 on 1's, he was a menace coming off the edge. He used to be a wide receiver but they needed him on the line. You could see the athleticism in his game as he abused opposing offensive linemen.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1633137' first='Lane' last='Simpson'] - 2028 Wide Receiver - Cushing</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Cushing 2028 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1633137' first='Lane' last='Simpson'] is coming off a breakout season where he was one of the more productive two-way players in the state. So it's no surprise that he was one of the better offensive skill players in attendance on Friday night in Catoosa. Simpson showed up and as Gurley elevated his game at quarterback, Simpson was on the other end of some of those big time throws. Simpson was doing a little bit of everything. He was beating defenders deep and also making guys miss after the catch. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1838000' first='Ridge' last='Blackbear'] - 2028 Running Back - Tahlequah Sequoyah</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>During our 2028 prospect breakdowns a couple months ago, we talked about Tahlequah Sequoyah 2028 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1838000' first='Ridge' last='Blackbear'] and how he had some of our favorite film from last season. He is an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses to bring down in a 1 on 1 situation. We saw flashes of that physical play from him on Friday night. He was also playing linebacker for the Indians and ultimately, that might end up where he plays at the next level. So we're looking forward to seeing him more on both sides of the ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='595692' first='Talon' last='Shaffer'] - 2027 Quarterback - Hilldale</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Out of every player in attendance on Friday night, we think that it's safe to say that we've seen Hilldale 2027 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='595692' first='Talon' last='Shaffer'] more than anyone else. Shaffer continues to be a quarterback that we like in the state's 2027 class but he'll have to overcome size questions. But he made a handful of throws on Friday that were absolutely great. On one play in particular, he rolled to his right and in a very crowded space, he uncorked a 40-yard bomb with a simple flick of his wrist and the receiver never lost stride. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1683118' first='Ty' last='Gaither'] - 2027 Offensive Lineman - Hilldale</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Just like a few of the other guys on this breakdown, we just saw Hilldale 2027 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1683118' first='Ty' last='Gaither'] at our May showcase camp. He was the OL MVP of that event and on Friday evening, he was arguably the best offensive lineman in attendance once again. We got a chance to watch Gaither go multiple times during 1 on 1's, against several teams and it seemed like every single rep, he was putting his guy down on the turf. Gaither is a 2027 OL prospect on the rise. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
