Recruiting Report: Andrew Sykora/Forest Lake (2021)
<strong>FOREST LAKE-- </strong>We head up I-35 on this Thursday morning to chat with a wide receiver from the Forest Lake Rangers. <a href="https://twitter.com/dsykora07"><strong>Andrew Sykora</strong>,</a> a 2021 NFN prospect, gave us his time to chat about his 2019 season, what's on his recruiting trail and much more.
<strong>Get to Know Andrew Sykora</strong>
In the Rangers offense, Sykora plays a versatile role at wide receiver where he plays every position wideout has to offer with his quick speed. His strengths on the field are his route running and how fast his breaks are when he's making his cuts across the football field trying to get open.
<strong>Favorite Part About Wide Receiver</strong>
I've heard lots of good responses about what each wide receiver's favorite part of the position is, and I enjoyed Andrew's answer too. "Isolation," Sykora told Northstar Football, I love getting isolation from the cornerback. Sykora also loves the at-will competition wide receiver gives him as a whole.
<strong>College Interest/Elevator Pitch</strong>
Sykora has heard from a couple of programs in Division II and Division III so far on his recruiting trail and he's keeping all options open right now early in the process. MSU-Moorhead and Bethel University have reached about Sykora's talent at wide receiver. As for his elevator pitch, Sykora had this to say for his future college coaches.
" For all the coaches seeing this, I will give my 100% into whatever I do whether it’s on the field or off. And I’m not scared of competition."
<strong>Improving for 2020</strong>
The Forest Lake Rangers coaching staff pushes players such as Sykora every year to be better in the weight room. With Sykora being a track athlete, we know he's in the weight room pretty much every day regardless. Sykora works with TJ Dean of the <strong><a href="https://www.facebook.com/TheTNTAcademy">TNT Academy</a> </strong>every weekend, which has helped Sykora with his routes tremendously and also breaking down with what he's doing on film. It also helps that most of the competition Sykora is going up against are Division I and Division II talents that he gets to vibe with and turn himself into a better player too against the stronger competition. Sykora also has a trainer from <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/thelabathletic?lang=en">The Lab Athletic</a> </strong>that has already gotten Sykora better with his agility and conditioning just this offseason alone.
<strong>Andrew's Mentor</strong>
Andrew has to thank his father for his love of the game of football. "He's the one that started me off," Andrew told NFN about how his father taught him the game.
<strong>Learning from 2019</strong>
This last season was a year of learning for Andrew. With extra training and preparation, Andrew knows he can improve in 2020 with the work he's put in already this offseason for 2020. He knows there are improvements he can make in almost every aspect of his game, but that doesn't stop him from getting to work almost every day of the week at his craft. Sykora's goals for his Rangers are to win more ball games and to have better overall connections with his teammates.
