Brian demonstrated everything I hoped to see from him. Against really good competition, he was still dominant all day long.
-Able to absorb initial contact, lock arms out and take control
-Great strength and sweet feet allows him to stay in control and stay square to his opponent
-Significant boost in stock in my eyes, with legitimate D1 upside just waiting to be unlocked

There are a few reasons why you might consider Brian “high upside” right now. It could be the elite frame. It could be his brute strength and ability to pack a punch. It couple be his great ability in the passing game. All of those things would be correct, but one thing that I see time and time again on his film will make college coaches salivate. This dude can pull, and he blocks in space extremely well. At his size, he makes it look easy getting through the gap and locking on in the open field. He could absolutely be a great fit for just about anyone at the next level thanks to his versatility.

I really liked what I saw from Matthews. He has a thick lower body and a violent punch. Brian lined up at both the Tackle and Guard positions. At 6’3 280 he also measured in with a 80.5″ wingspan and 11″ hands. I could see him as a swing tackle or a versatile guard at the college level. He does a great job of getting quick depth in his kick step to cut off the speed rush. He does a good job countering when the pass rushers would try to go from speed to power. His violent hands would frequently knock defenders off their spot. I would expect Matthews to have a strong offseason. I could definitely see him getting D2 or D1 FCS level attention with a good camp season.

Brian makes his rankings debut slotted inside the top 200. In time, I may come to regret this ranking, as some traits indicate he’s better than #171.
I had the opportunity to watch Brian against Detroit Catholic Central back in September. Considering the competition he was up against, I thought he did an excellent job. Playing guard, Brian was extremely physical and was quick to get to his spots. Additionally, he looked a tad taller than 6’3″. If measuarables hold up, I could see Brain earning college attention this offseason.

I caught a handful of Brian’s reps during the first half. He looks a little taller than the 6’2″ we have him listed as, and a heck of a lot better than a “Watch List” player.
Solid mobility for the position, and great physicality. You can see it in Brian’s offseason clips- he’s not afraid to get his nose dirty in the trenches. A good showing from the Indiana transfer, and someone who deserves some college attention. I’m a little surprised to see zero offers on his Twitter.
