We had to dig pretty far back into the records, but prior to now-redshirt freshman CB Will Washington joining the North Dakota State Bison last season, an Apple Valley alum hasn't represented the Eagles on the gridiron in Fargo since 2009, when punter Jason Obarski spent his second season with the Bison after transferring in from Minnesota-Crookston. Zack Johnson, the multi-time All-American OG - was from Apple Valley, but he went to Eastview High School, so it is with great excitement to publish that yet another Apple Valley product will head NW up I-94 to North Dakota State University to play some football. Bison fans, meet the electric WR [player_tooltip player_id='1255129' first='Q' last='Barnslater'], a silky smooth pass catcher coming from the 5A ranks of Minnesota high school football straight to the Fargo Dome to find glory. Barnslater was kind enough to catch up with PrepRedzoneMN to discuss his recruitment, how the Bison ultimately earned his verbal commitment, Apple Valley's 2025 season, and more. Roll Herd!

After a strong junior season with the Eagles in which the two-way starter caught nearly 500 yards through the air and four TDs, Barnslater received his offer from NDSU, his first collegiate offer overall, in late February. Barnslater told PRzMN that, "along the process NDSU showed me the most interest in me and there coaching staff being the first group of coaches to believe in me played a huge part in my commitment." Despite talking to suitors such as Kansas State, Central Michigan, Miami (OH), and fellow MVFC rivals Northern Iowa (who had also offered), South Dakota, and South Dakota State, Barnslater told PRzMN that NDSU stood out because of the "culture." He stated to us that, "everyone is so involved and supportive of the football program" and made sure to add that "I'm most excited to play South Dakota state since it's a big rival in the Missouri Valley Conference."

As far as his senior season with the Eagles, the twitchy route runner, who was an undisputed Alpha Dog performer at this offseason's 612Q's Offensive Skills Camp and has had a strong winter and spring in the weight room, told PRzMN that, "you can expect a lot out of Apple Valley next year, we've always been a younger team and this year we finally are more mature and have a scary secondary." Keep your eyes and ears out for this playmaker from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Bison fans!
