He's in the early stages of development, but Rice has some tools to work with. Rice is comfortable outside of the pocket. Several of his highlights show him making throws on the move, rolling both left and right. This mobility makes Rice a threat in bootleg and play-action schemes. He tends to go with his first read and gets the ball out quickly. The offense he's in has a quick-game concept, and he operates accordingly. Rice's highlights have a few plays showing good timing on rhythm throws, like out routes, drags, and short crossing patterns. He also made a couple of completions, catching the receiver in stride. Rice is already solid at selling the play-action enough to freeze linebackers. He looks very mobile, but surprisingly, there are not too many plays of him making things happen with his legs. As he progresses as a quarterback, Rice will get better at going through his progressions. While he is still a raw talent, improvement in footwork, mechanics, and overall pocket presence will take him to the next step in his development.

[player_tooltip player_id='401343' first='Evan' last='Budinger'] is a quarterback with a strong arm, is poised, and already has a college-ready frame. A play in his highlights, a 50-yard pass down the sideline to a running back in stride, showcases his arm strength. Budinger is not afraid to stretch the field vertically. It's a lot of RPO action in the offense he runs. Budinger consistently uses ball fakes to move defenders and open throwing windows. While he's not a true dual-treat, he's mobile in the pocket and can make off-platform throws. Budinger could work on showing more urgency in the pocket, especially in his setup. I'd need to see more of him throwing intermediate-type routes before entirely judging whether he can make all the throws. His ball handling, play-action execution, patience, and poise in the pocket give him a strong foundation to continue building.

Mehki Corbin has a college-ready frame (6-1, 210 pounds) with impressive agility, footwork, and vision. He's good at reading defensive flow and reacting with sharp cuts to the inside or outside. Corbin has the power to run through arm tacklers and has no problem lowering the boom on would-be tacklers. It's hard to bring him down on first contact. I like Corbin's agility and foot quickness due to his size. There are a few plays on his highlights where he's sidestepping defenders and navigating through traffic. Corbin does a great job of identifying cutback lanes due to overbust by the defence. Corbin is more of a strider but has a little shake and bake to his game. I'd like to see him hit the hole faster and keep on developing his long speed. I love what I'm seeing from him so far at this stage in his high school career.

Rahmeir Berry is a physical running back whose north-south running style makes him a solid short-yardage and goal-line option. His highlights show him finishing with effort and toughness. I like what I see from him regarding his vision and ability to adjust to what he sees when running the football. Berry's highlights include a few plays where he sees traffic and is decisive, either making a cutback or bouncing it outside. Berry hits the hole with a good burst and doesn't waste time getting downhill. He'll become an even better prospect as he improves his lateral burst and agility.

[player_tooltip player_id='1611280' first='Tisyn' last='Witcher'] is an explosive wide receiver with open-field instincts and playmaking ability. His highlights show his ability to stretch the field vertically and create chunk plays repeatedly. Two plays, a seam route and a fade catch in tight coverage, show how dangerous he can be once he gets behind the defense. Witcher is a versatile weapon as both a receiver and runner in his team's offense. I'm impressed with how much of a threat he is after he catches the football and gets that YAC. He's elusive, and his quick feet and vision make him exciting to watch when he has the ball in his hands. Witcher's quickness off the snap is noticeable, too. His initial burst helps him gain separation on vertical routes. College coaches will love the fact that he puts great effort into blocking for his running backs. That's a team player. I'll see what he looks like running other types of routes before I can make a complete evaluation in that regard. Witcher has a lot of upside.

Evaluating prospects from The First State: 3A standouts – Pt. 1

Evaluating prospects from The First State: 2A standouts – Pt. 1

Evaluating prospects from The First State: 1A standouts – Pt. 1

Evaluating prospects from The First State: 2A standouts – Pt. 2

Evaluating prospects from The First State: 3A standouts – Pt. 2
