of Cedar Rapids Prairie is as intimidating as they come on 5A offensive lines. Like a few other offensive linemen that fall into this category, Donald’s size should almost be enough to get him a spot on a Division I roster.
Holding down the left tackle spot on what is one of the more talented offensive lines in the state, Donald will need to continue to add strength and foot-speed if he’s going to reach his potential in college, but the physical tools are absolutely there, and he’s receiving excellent coaching from Prairie’s Kyle Knock.

I liked what I saw from Donald when scouting him against Southeast Polk early in the 2024 season. He’d shown a lot of progress when I pulled up to see the Prairie Hawks face Iowa City West on Oct. 17, 2025 in Cedar Rapids. Gone were some of the rough edges often associated with a sophomore. Donald has a better understanding of what defenses are running at him when he lines up at left tackle. He hands guys off when he needs to and takes care of the edge. A very large human, Donald slides his feet smoothly and quikcly gets set up in pass protection. He also understands the importance of operating with low pads in the running game. Donald could keep developing into a left tackle for the next level, but his agility and power would play at right tackle or inside, too.

Set to play left tackle for Prairie once again this fall, Javen “Bubba” Donald is a massive presence on the OL. Having his first year of experience last season, Donald will enter this year as a much more fluid mover on the outside, making him a more consistent pass-blocker and extremely difficult to beat for pass-rushers.
I look forward to seeing Donald putting pads on this fall to see how much he can use his size to impose his will in the run game, and if he can help not only protect Kongshaug’s backside, but pave the way for the Hawks’ ground attack.
If Donald slims down a bit and improves his explosion off the ball, he should have the opportunity to play FBS football. Otherwise, any FCS program in the Midwest would benefit by adding him to their roster, considering his potential as a left tackle.

I caught Donald against now four-time defending state champion Southeast Polk during the regular season. He stood out initially just by being a large human. Once the ball was snapped, Donald displayed athleticism and agility in a massive frame. While there’s always technical development remaining with young players, Donald already offers sound fundamentals. He smoothly drops into his stance and slides well laterally in pass-pro. He hits his aiming points in the run game, keeps the pads down and drives with his legs.
