All-Metro Commitment Report: Marcus Holasek (Chaska-2020)

In this special All-Metro edition of Northstar Football News’ “Commitment Report”, state champion Chaska 2020 monster LB Marcus Holasek shares his thoughts on Chaska’s incredible 2019 5A state championship run, the college recruiting process, and his early commitment to the Northern Sun powerhouse Minnesota-Duluth. The 6’3, 240 lb. “thumper” - as his coach Bryan Dahl describes him as reported by Randy Shaver - had 82 tackles leading the physically gigantic and aggressive Chaska Hawk defense. The KARE11 First Team All-Metro selection was also described by his coach as the “toughest kid he’s ever coached”, a high complement as Dahl has coached a litany of scholarship players at both the D1, D2, and NAIA levels. I hope you enjoy the insight from Holasek into his decision to join the UMD Bulldogs as well as some details about his Minnesota prep career. Chaska/Chanhassen 2019 Hudl: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/9800226/5d77e1939680ca01c4f0e568 NFN: Hello, Marcus. Thank you so much for your time and congratulations on the state title, your All-Metro season, and your decision to join one of the best football teams in Minnesota. Start by telling us a little bit about the recruiting process, when it began, and what was important during the process for you? Holasek: “The recruiting process started my junior year fall on game day visits and my first was SDSU. Once I started to put my game film out on Twitter I started to get more DMs and coaches texting me. I went on 8 junior day visits in the spring and started to narrow down my schools and see what I liked and didn’t. A thing that stood out for me was the coaching staff (at UMD) and how they communicated things to you. I went to decent schools on visits but some of those didn’t have great communication. So I never really made that bond with them as a staff which was a make or break for me. Once I went to UMD I knew I was going there after a game day visit and committed in September which is early.” NFN: That’s very interesting. Junior days and game day visits seem to be critical in the exposure process. What else stood out to you about UMD and what made you commit to them specifically? Holasek: “I went on a private junior day because I couldn’t make a Duluth’s and once I walked in every coach who was there knew my name, asked me questions, and started that bond early which I liked. After that I talk with the Coach Wiese and he laid out where I was in depth charts and where they wanted me which was super nice to know where I stand with them. Every time I went to Duluth something different stood out for me which I liked and enjoyed from canal park to hunting and fishing and the school. [caption id="attachment_15827" align="alignright" width="300"] Holasek (black tank) with his Hawk teammates.[/caption] During my official my host Zach Ojile who plays fullback for them really accepted me and really got to know him and all the other players in my position group and solidified my decision and knew UMD was the place for me.” NFN: Awesome. What are you excited about in terms of continuing to play football in Minnesota? Holasek: “I think MN football has been really fun a ton of talent in this state and just has been a blast to play in.” NFN: Well said. Last but not least please tell us about the state title game and what some of your favorite moments about the experience were? Holasek: “The state game was awesome our whole community was there it felt like when we were walking out of that tunnel and it was so cool. There was never a doubt in my mind on that last drive that we would score and our offense got it done. It was just a blast words can’t describe how happy I am to see my brothers work so hard for one dream and achieve that it was truly and blessing and hope chaska can bring another one back soon.” Holasek is the total package and will have a great career in Duluth, and I’m excited to see how the Chaska Hawk balls out in the Northern Sun. Good luck and thanks for your time, Marcus!
