Continue ReadingWe’re fully into 7-on-7 season, and one of the best in the off-season is the Corky Kell classic. Made up of 45 teams, the tournament included some of the state’s top teams and some of the nation’s top prospects. There were 5-stars present throughout the day and they all made their presence known from the start. The weather didn’t cooperate towards the end, but a new team was crowned champion and the tournament was once again a big success.
Here are the top performers that stood out the most during the Corky Kell tournament…
Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA (Rabun County)
They may not have won the tournament, but the Rabun County Wildcats, led by elite QB Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA , didn’t lose a single game all day. The 6-foot-1 220-pounder was excellent all day, showing off his elite arm strength and accuracy. He had no problem dissecting defenses all day and knew how to strike quickly down the field when he needed too. He was sharp on his shorter and underneath throws, but he also threw a pretty deep ball when he saw open defenders down the field. He was calm, poised, and showed great leadership all day. He was easily one of the top performers on the day.

Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA (West Forsyth):
It wasn’t a great day for the West Forsyth Wolverines overall, but playmaking TE Oscar Delp Oscar Delp 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE West Forsyth | 2022 State GA still couldn’t be stopped. A big target at 6-foot-5 220-pounds, Delp ran routes like a receiver and made lots of catches in pool play. The four-star couldn’t stay for the tournament as he had to leave early to make his official visit to Florida this weekend, but his impact was easy to see early on. He worked the sideline well and had no problems making a tough catch in traffic. He was one of the top prospects in attendance and lived up to the hype.

Ethan Nation Ethan Nation 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Roswell | 2023 State GA (Roswell)
Whether it was on offense or defense, Nation was making big plays all day for the Roswell Hornets. He may not be the biggest guy, but Nation has some of the best ball skills that you’ll find across the state. He’s quick, shifty, and can jump with the best of them. He high points the ball well and knows how to climb the ladder and make a play on the ball. He was one of the biggest playmakers in the tournament and made some highlight-reel plays throughout the day. He lead the state in INTs last year as a sophomore and is expected to be one of the highest-ranked DBs in Georgia for the 2023 class.

Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA (Collins Hill)
Like Nation, Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA has unreal ball skills and put them on full display this weekend. The top-ranked athlete in the entire country, Hunter was unstoppable once again and led Collins Hill to an undefeated day and a deep run in the tournament. They didn’t have a close game and Hunter was a big reason why. Arguably the best player in the tournament, the five-star showed off his ability to be a game-changing receiver and found the end-zone multiple times during the tournament. If the weather didn’t stop the tournament, Hunter was likely going to lead Collins Hill to the championship. He’s a five-star for as reason and backed it up with his play all day.

Ty Watkins Ty Watkins 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB South Forsyth | 2023 State GA (South Forsyth)
We thought it was going to be a big year for the 2023 QB from South Forsyth, and he bursted onto the scene this weekend at Corky Kell. After losing the very first game in pool play, Watkins and South Forsyth went undefeated the rest of the way and did it in style. Watkins didn’t play much last year, but he’s developed nicely over the last few weeks and really stood out during the tournament. He put some zip on the ball, threw it well deep, but more importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over. He threw it well on the run and looked calm and poised throughout the tournament. He had a big day and many should expect him to have a big junior season this fall.
GREAT throw and catch for the South Forsyth score. 2023 QB Ty Watkins @TyWat11 to 2023 WR Josh Nelson @Joshenelson. @sofofootball @coach_mccarter pic.twitter.com/K1ziWxp6SN
