Zeeland West Scouting Report (vs. West Catholic)

On our rankings, we have a good amount of Dux included, but wow have I been sleeping on a few of them. A few prospects greatly impressed me, and they're due for major boosts during the next update. Absolutely AWFUL right now. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Look- if I were to rank Keaton now, he'd be in the 200s. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>He played out of his mind yesterday. Offensively, Keaton took a ton of carries and consistently earned extra yardage. He isn't the most athletic or strongest prospect, but he knows how to work with his abilities and plays with tremendous confidence. I mean, the vast majority of RBs with his size never lay down a shoulder and fight for yardage. Keaton not only gave out a some shoulders, but he hit hard and displayed good contact balance. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I haven't even touched on his defense- he was great in that aspect too. Not the most fundamentally sound DB, but plays with that same excellent play speed and physicality. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Excellent game. Excellent football player. To my surprise, he's starting at Quarterback. To even more of a surprise, Trey had a handful of pass attempts, and made the most of those opportunities. Lastly, Trey had a handful of carries and was overall utilized far better than most Wing-T QB's that I've watched.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Touching on the passing- Trey fired away a few accurate deep balls alongside some quick game. He did put one ball in harm's way but had zero turnover-worthy plays otherwise. Knowing (who I assume is his brother) Parker, I am extremely confident that Brandon will develop into a fantastic player for Zeeland West.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In terms of yesterday's game- he was primarily involved in lowlights. Getting this out of the way quickly, but Brandon dropped a deep ball on offense and gave up a few big passing plays on defense. The thing is, Brandon looked extremely fast on his dropped deep ball and was in a perfect position during those pass defenses. With a bit more focus, Brandon would've secured a big TD alongside two critical pass deflections. Lastly, Brandon was utiized as a kick returner, making him a 3-phase starter during his sophomore season- a HUGE accomplishment.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Experience is the main thing Brandon is missing. I really liked Marshall's getoff and physicality, but he struggled against two players with longer arms. In addition, Marshall was in on a ton of tackles, but also missed a few tackles. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Offensively, Marshall was excellent. Sure, his job is a bit "simple" as a Wing-T lineman, but dang, did he and the rest of the O-Line do well. Marshall consistently exploded off the ball and absolutely rocked a few unsuspecting defenders. He probably got less carries than other RBs, but Joah barreled his way into the endzone twice. He was an excellent power back and earned those critical goal-line TDs. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Very short eval, but I will be adding Jonah to the 2026 Rankings watch list.
