Hayfield vs West Springfield Players to Watch

<p>One of the biggest games in the state of Virginia is set for kickoff in less than 48 hours between the Hayfield Hawks and the West Springfield Spartans. Both squads have playoff aspirations and with the announcement that Hayfield has been cleared of any wrongdoing, this matchup just got even spicier. I will be in attendance for this game and I have already ordered two bags of popcorn. Here are your players to watch for each team below:</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>West Springfield Spartans</strong>:</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">The number 1 quarterback in the class of 2026 gets his first major test of the 2024 season tomorrow going up against a high caliber Hawks defense. You will never see a Walrath back down from a challenge and Brian is no exception, this kid has major upside. Hayfield will have their hands full with this speedster who was the Patriot District player of the year. I would expect Coach Parker to call his number early and often to keep the pressure of Walrath and the offense.</p>   <p><a href="[player_tooltip player_id='1362821' first='Mark-Anthony' last='Whyte'] HUDL">[player_tooltip player_id='1362821' first='Mark-Anthony' last='Whyte'] HUDL</a></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">The Spartans could use a big game from reigning 2 time all region lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1362839' first='Izaiah' last='Gallagher'] up front. Gallagher is arguably the best uncommitted defensive lineman in his class, with seemingly a new offer every day. I thought in the scrimmage against Dunbar he looked more comfortable as the game went on, I will be curious to see his progress facing a stingy Spartans defense. </p>   <p>I would expect Coach O to rely on his ground game early in this contest as French gets comfortable with the new offense. He has plenty of playmakers at his disposal including Deuce Trotter, [player_tooltip player_id='1298578' first='Nathan' last='Chiles'] and Dematha transfer [player_tooltip player_id='372393' first='Vincent' last='Ordenes']. </p>   <p><a href="[player_tooltip player_id='372517' first='Isaiah' last='French'] HUDL">[player_tooltip player_id='372517' first='Isaiah' last='French'] HUDL</a></p>   <p></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">The Akron Commit will be in charge of a new defense this year as he too made the decision to transfer to Hayfield earlier this year. Reeves is one of the best linebackers in the country and he has a tall task on hand stopping West Springfield offense tomorrow. This will be arguably the most talented offensive squad Reeves and his unit have faced and you can best believe that is all the motivation he needs. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Overton Jr. looked in mid-season form last Friday night against Dunbar, I am pretty confident he will have 20 plus carries tomorrow night. The Virginia Tech commit has been a workhorse on both offense and defense for the past few seasons. Regardless if it has been at Freedom or now Hayfield, the past two years he has a case for not being named the best player in the state. </p>   <p>He looked motivated and hungry dodging Dunbar defenders for a couple of touchdowns last week. I would expect him to provide the crowd with some early fireworks. </p>   <p></p>
