This position is overflowing with talent throughout the state and names on this list will be talked about much during the season and for the foreseeable future. These athletes are key to their teams success and will be recruited heavenly for the rest of their high school careers so it is important to keep tabs on their growth and development. These are young stars right in front of our eyes. Make sure to check out the rest of the rankings here.
Rueben Owens – El Campo
Owens is well known not only around the state but in the country as well. The Texas commit is the number one running back in the state and the film backs it up. He is a dynamic athlete who is a homerun hitter every time he touches the ball. Owens is shifty, shows great balance, and can outrun every one on the field. He shows an excellent change of direction and top notch burst when he sees an opening. Enough cannot be said about Owens and his tremendous skill as a player. He will be a player who’s name you will here at the next level and possibly beyond that.
Tre Wisner Tre Wisner 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB DeSoto | 2023 State TX – Connally
Wisner is an excellent playmaker with great vision and acceleration. He shows the ability to change directions and has another gear going through the open lanes. Wisner makes defenders miss with ease in the hole and turns short gains into touchdowns. He is a strong runner who does not go down without a fight and that combined with his speed makes him a top running back. Wisner was named Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year for his district and he currently holds fifteen offers.
Marquise Collins Marquise Collins 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB College Station | 2023 State TX – College Station
Collins is another back who shows great vision and speed. He accelerates through running lanes with a purpose and shows the ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces. Collins is quick to find openings and if its not there, he will outun a defense on the perimeter. Collins shows good hands out of the backfield as well and excellent run after catch skills. Collins currently holds two offers but a player of his talent will have plenty more coming in.
Seth Davis Seth Davis 5'7" | 165 lbs | RB Katy | 2023 State TX – Katy
Davis played a major role in his teams state championship season and was named the MVP of the championship game. He is a player who’s size you cannot let fool you. Davis is extremely agile and quick and possesses top end speed. His feet do not stop moving when he touches the ball. Davis is decisive with his moves and hits the running lanes faster than defenses can react. On the season, Davis ran for 1,745 and accounted for 18 rushing touchdowns. His big play ability is the reason why I put him on this list and expectations for him are high, but I am more than sure he is ready for the challenge. Programs will soon be at his door, trying to secure this talented player.
A’Marion Peterson A’Marion Peterson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Hirschi | 2023 State TX – Hirschi
Peterson is a physical back who possesses great speed. He runs with power, but can also leave a defense in the dust just watching him score. Peterson is a back who requires more than one player to take him down, and he also happens to be very light on his feet. The spin move buts defenders in a cycle, the stiff arm puts them in the dirt, and the speed leaves them staring. Peterson has all of the necessary tools to be on this top running back list including great size. He currently holds two offers, but like the rest, the time is coming for his name to blow up in the recruiting world.
