Get 25% off your subscription by entering Knight25 in the coupon code area. Enjoy! This past weekend, Prep Redzone Oklahoma made it down to the Dallas area to check out more 7v7 action. Several Oklahoma teams also made the trip and we were able to watch some spectacular players in the 18U and 15U division. In this post, we break down and take a look at five standouts from the 18U division. Three 2023 prospects and two 2022 prospects that not only had strong weekends but showed promise as we get closer to spring football in May. Stay tuned for another post on Wednesday, taking a look at the standouts from the 15U division! [player_tooltip player_id="133448" first="Damarion" last="Mason"] - 2022 ATH - Putnam City North (Played With YAYO) This is a great example of why we try to get out to as many tournaments as possible. You’re able to see players who either you haven’t heard of or you haven’t seen in person. Along the way you find some gems that should be getting more attention and Putnam City North 2022 athlete [player_tooltip player_id="133448" first="Damarion" last="Mason"] qualifies for that list. We’ll admit that before the tournament circuit, we hadn’t heard about Mason but after watching him with YAYO in a few tournaments, we’re excited to see what he does when the helmets and pads come. back on. Mason is built like a prototypical linebacker and can run all over the field. He’s a player that just looks like he is at his best when the pads come on and he can use his size and physicality to his advantage. We have a few players on this list that you should remember going into the 2021 season and Mason is for sure one at the linebacker spot. [player_tooltip player_id="38687" first="Gage" last="Hamm"] - 2022 ATH - Coweta (Played With Sooner 7) Coweta 2022 ATH [player_tooltip player_id="38687" first="Gage" last="Hamm"] is one of the better quarterbacks in the state’s 2022 class. But at this point, maybe we have to start listing him as an athlete because he’s been getting better and better on the defensive side of the ball at safety. This offseason, running with Sooner 7, Hamm has played almost exclusively on the defensive side of the ball at the safety spot. This past weekend, we watched Hamm closer than we have all offseason and we came away very impressed with his improvement and overall skill level at the position. Coming into this offseason, we knew Hamm was a big time athlete based on watching his game as a quarterback. But watching his skill level and overall game IQ grow over the last few months has been what has impressed us most. Hamm tracks the ball extremely well and flew all over the field this past weekend. [player_tooltip player_id="133447" first="Jax" last="Smith"] - 2023 WR - Choctaw (Played With Sooner 7) Choctaw is going to need a new player to step up at the receiver position after [player_tooltip player_id="38496" first="Chase" last="Jackson"] and Terrill Davis graduate and move on to the next level. They have a few playmakers that have already stood out and one of them is 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="133447" first="Jax" last="Smith"]. He certainly has an advantage and edge as we get close to spring ball because he’s been playing with his quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="38780" first="Steele" last="Wasel"] almost every weekend with Sooner 7. The 1-2 connection of Wasel and Smith has been getting better and better and this past weekend was a great representation of that. We’ll be featuring Wasel next and what he was doing well but for Smith, he made that same jump forward. Smith has good size and very reliable hands and continues to improve every time he steps on the field. We have Smith as a prospect that could end up being a breakout player at the wide receiver position. [player_tooltip player_id="38780" first="Steele" last="Wasel"] - 2023 QB - Choctaw (Played With Sooner 7) Choctaw 2023 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="38780" first="Steele" last="Wasel"] has been on the radar for about a year now and rightfully so. At this point, all he’s done is solidified his spot as the top quarterback in Oklahoma’s 2023 class and is knocking on the door of being the top overall quarterback in the state today. The growing theme of this list is players who are getting better and better every time they get out on the field. Wasel fits that same mold. He makes every throw in the book look easy, he’s an excellent leader of his team and we identified one play from this last weekend that just made us say wow. He had his teammate [player_tooltip player_id="133447" first="Jax" last="Smith"] running a go route over the middle and he had a step on the linebacker. Wasel put the ball right over the linebacker’s right shoulder and connected with Smith. The linebacker had no idea what happened until it was too late. Wasel trusts his arm and his teammates and makes dangerous throws look easy. [player_tooltip player_id="115219" first="Tyson" last="Williams"] - 2023 DB - Bixby (Played With Sooner 7) Coming into this offseason, we didn’t know much about Bixby 2023 cornerback [player_tooltip player_id="115219" first="Tyson" last="Williams"]. It didn’t take long for us to become a fan of his game and tournament after tournament, Williams continued to stand out. This past weekend might have been one of his best tournaments this offseason. He was an absolute lock down corner for Sooner 7 on both days. With [player_tooltip player_id="61137" first="Korbyn" last="Green"] on the other side, Williams was always out on an island and continued to make play after play. Even on Sunday when Del City standout [player_tooltip player_id="38778" first="Kanijal" last="Thomas"] joined the team, Williams was still playing a high level of football in the secondary. Between now and August, we’ll have plenty of content previewing the 2021 football season and [player_tooltip player_id="115219" first="Tyson" last="Williams"] will be featured plenty of times. So don’t be surprised this fall if he becomes one of the state’s breakout stars. We told you so.
