In the month of June, we’re updating all of our prospect rankings on Prep Redzone Oklahoma. We’ve seen a ton of football this offseason from the 7v7 circuit to camps to most recently with team camps. We kicked off our month of ranking updates last week with a look at the 2027 class as they head into their sophomore seasons this fall. This week, it’s time to look at the 2026 class. On Monday, our 2026 rankings were updated to include the Top 125 players in the upcoming junior class. You can check out the updated rankings right here. In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on the defensive back position. From cornerbacks to safeties, this is a position group that keeps getting deeper. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma every Monday this month for another ranking update!
Several prospects on this breakdown have been on our radar since their freshman year and Heritage Hall’s Jerrod Williams Jerrod Williams 5'11" | DB Heritage Hall | 2026 State OK is one of them. He got on our radar after having a big performance in the state title game in 2022. He followed that up with a strong offseason and kept that momentum going into last season. Williams has seen his recruitment really start to take off this offseason and he’s definitely in the conversation for best cornerback in this class. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Williams also turn around and have an impact on offense this fall because of his athleticism but he’s been terrific on defense.
Savion James Savion James 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Putnam City | 2026 State OK has been a name that we’ve written about a handful of times whenever we’ve updated the state’s 2026 rankings. He’s been a name to know in this class since his freshman season. James was a standout for Putnam City West to start his high school career. But fast forward to this season and he’ll be a standout for Putnam City and the Pirates are going to be a dark horse to watch this season. James was thrown in the fire when he was a freshman at the cornerback position and he has performed at a very high level. James is a terrific athlete and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does this fall.

This offseason has been a great one for Jenks as they find themselves as perhaps the favorite in Class 6A-1. One of the players that is returning and looking to have an even greater impact is Ace Gilliam Ace Gilliam 5'11" | DB Jenks | 2026 State OK at the cornerback position. This Jenks secondary has the potential to be one of the better units in Class 6A-1. But when you look at the Trojan roster, you can make that argument about a lot of the position groups. Gilliam was a terrific player last season and we know that the Jenks coaches are high on him as he heads into his junior season. Gilliam is one of several 2026 prospects for the Trojans that you need to know about.

Seminole standout Mason Bennett Mason Bennett 6'2" | DB Seminole | 2026 State OK is another 2026 prospect on this breakdown that has been on the radar since his freshman season. And like some of the other guys in that discussion, Bennett was a terrific athlete from the start of his career and he simply did not look like a freshman when he was out there a few seasons ago. Bennett has had to deal with his share of injuries during his career but when he’s healthy, he’s a terrific safety. His athleticism and overall leaping ability is among the best in Class 3A football. As Bennett goes into this season, he’s going to be one of the top athletes in the class.
Our final prospect to watch at this position is Mustang’s Jaytee Johnson Jaytee Johnson 6'0" | DB Mustang | 2026 State OK and the 2024 season could be a big one for him. He’s coming off a 2023 campaign where he had a broken collarbone very early on in his sophomore season. That limited what he was able to do. Mustang’s coaches like what he brings to the table on the offensive side of the ball. We watched Johnson back in march at the Under Armour camp in Dallas and he worked on defense as a cornerback. Whether he’s on offense or defense, Johnson is going to be a name to watch this season as he looks to make up for lost time.
