Bowie State Mega Camp - Defensive Standouts

<p>I was at Bowie State Mega Camp this past weekend and got to see a lot of talent from all over the state. It was a top tier camp with good coaching and competition from the players. Here are some of defensive players I saw on the day that I feel were stand out players.</p>   <p></p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Brandon is a player who stood out to me at this camp last summer when he was a sophomore and he did so once again this past week. After spending his junior season at Mililani HS in Hawaii he is back at Arundel HS for his senior year. Brandon has an ideal frame with broad shoulders and long arms, he will fill out real well as he continues to add bulk in the weight room. He is an explosive rusher off the edge. Can play with his hand in the ground or as a stand up OLB. Capable of bending the edge, dipping his shoulder low and ripping through the blocker to get to the QB quickly and often. During drill work he displayed the ability to quickly flip his hips with good COD to turn and run. A fluid overall athlete Brandon is set to tear up this season back at Arundel. He currently holds a handful of Power 4/FBS offers but they are mainly west coast schools from his season in Hawaii. He will make a strong appearance in the next 2025 MD/DC/DE rankings and I expect many more offers to come Brandon's way from local schools now that he is back in MD. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/3randonGorham/status/1717604647576510932 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Evan had a great showing at the camp and had plenty of coaches buzzing about him. He has thick build and strong lower half that allows him to create a lot of speed to power in his rush. Evan plays with a lot of energy, he is physical with active hands. He is able to get skinny working the inside shoulder of the offensive lineman, and shows a wide array of pass rush moves to get off blocks. A nice overall athlete who runs well plays with quick feet. Evan has a skill set that college coaches look for in a DL prospect. He currently holds a handful of FBS offers and I expect more to come with some Power 4 looks as well. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/FTRreport/status/1797001318575313203 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Joshua is a player I have seen a couple times this spring/summer and I continue to be impressed with his play every time. A physical DB with great length, Joshua is strong in press man coverage. He has a powerful jam at the LOS, rides the receivers hip, and knows how to use the sideline to run the WR wide. This throws off the route and timing of the WR and QB. A do it all athlete for Central, Joshua played QB/WR/CB/S and is also plays on the basketball team. He plays fast and shows smooth hips with ability to quickly burst to the ball. Not afraid of any contact either, Joshua can run the alley and lay a strong hit on the ball carrier. With his size, length, and toughness I like Joshua as a rangy S but can see him as a CB as well in the right system. He is an offer prospect to me and should be getting more interest from college coaches. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/OHxrp/status/1797049846068642303 </div></figure>   <p class="text-gray-700"></p>    <p>Matt may be a bit undersized on the DL but he makes up for it with his explosiveness and quick hands. He also has really long arms for his HT so he is able to long arm blockers keeping them away from his chest. Mr. King was really impressive during drills and 1v1s at the camp. He has burst off the snap and fired out low with good bend. The thing that stood out the most to me about Matt during the camp was his hand technique. Shoots and stabs, Matt has a strong slap to get OLs hands away and can pair it with a nice rip move. Matt is a DL who can play inside or outside and demonstrates high level technique for the position. A big senior season is ahead of him that will garner some college attention.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/1lorslick/status/1741882293109526878 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">This camp was the first time I was able to see Jay live and he stood out to me big time and is and under the radar prospect. An edge defender he played mainly as a DE with his hand down for St. Charles but his best fit will be as a rush OLB at the next level. A well slapped together kid who will add on lots of muscle, can see him being a 225lbs+ player in time. Jay showed good overall athleticism on the day running a 4.85 forty paired with a 4.31 shuttle. I saw some twitchy hips from Jay on the day. He can re-direct and play the edge, not letting ball carriers outside of him. Shows a quick change of direction, can stick his foot in the ground and burst. Jay has some good pass rush moves in his bag, but has a nasty out & in move. He get the OT to open up and feel threatened around the edge creating space for Jay to shoot back in outside with a direct line to the QB. As he continues to develop his pass rush moves and he will only become more dangerous. I expect double digit sacks from Jay for his senior year and will be a impact player for St. Charles. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/1takejayy_19/status/1731708557383413866 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Tylil is a prospect who's recruitment is about to take off in my mind. He has added some good weight since the fall and looks every bit the part of an athletic MLB. He plays fast & physical, flies to ball and will lay the lumber on the ball carrier. Tylil is physical enough to come down hill and fill with power, and athletic enough to get sideline to sideline and chase down ball carriers. He showed during the camp that he is effective in pass coverage as well. Moving with active feet, good enough hips to turn & run or burst and close on the ball.
