Talk about a breakout game!
It’s apparent that South Christian intends on using Tyler at WR a lot more. His size makes him an ideal physical outside receiver who can win you those jump balls. On a few occasions, that’s exactly what he did. On his second highlight, Tyler shows good concentration pulling in the back shoulder fade. His third highlight is the most impressive in my opinion, as Tyler gains a ton of YAC on the short reception over the middle.
On top of his good day at receiver, Tyler had a few tackles on defense.
This offseason proved that Tyler is an insanely high-upside prospect. I’d bet that Tyler will one day be a great starter at Grand Valley!

Brinks is a phenomenal pickup for GVSU. At South Christian, Tyler is utilized as a TE on offense and an DE on defense. Considering his height, Tyler has phenomenal upside at both positions.
Offensively, Tyler has shown flashes. Mainly, I’m impressed with Tyler’s ability to block and maintain high effort throughout the game. I watch a lot of tape from prospects that are generally afraid to hit- that is not the case with Tyler. He can put his hand in the dirt and block, and that will serve him well in college. Defensively, Tyler has a wide tackle radius and can easily shed blocks of shorter-armed linemen. Still, he’s quite raw in both areas.
I expect Tyler to be a developmental piece for GVSU. In a few years time, if Tyler can polish his skillset while getting in the weight room a ton, he’ll be a great player for GVSU.

I’m very confident that Tyler Brinks Tyler Brinks 6'5" | 210 lbs | ATH South Christian | 2025 State MI is about to take off. I’ve said it time and time again, but Tyler was one of our most prominent offseason standouts. He’s a relatively raw player on both sides of the ball, but he took coaching well and was able to impress a ton of coaches this offseason. My gut feeling was that a few MAC schools would be in the running for Tyler, but his recent commitment to GVSU solidifies him as one of the higher-upside D2 commits. According to his Twitter, he’s committed as a Tight End, not an EDGE rusher. In that case, I’d expect to see better physicality in the blocking game, in addition to much more production over the air. There isn’t much time before the season begins, but I’d expect Tyler to add a significant amount of weight before he becomes the game-breaking Tight End that I know can grow into. I also fully expect him to play defense this Fall. There, I’m confident Tyler will play with more physicality and more consistent play speed. South Christian could very well make their way to Ford Field again this year, and Tyler is going to be a huge part of that journey.

I’ve discussed Tyler quite a few times since May. Last season, he was a great player for a South Christian team that made a State Championship appearance. Especially at EDGE, he flashed his potential.
At several camps, Tyler turned heads from his size alone. His 6’5″ height plus long arms make for a phenomenal EDGE rusher on paper. At the MHSAA Camp in Jenison, I saw him workout as a Tight End. There, he showcased decent athleticism and route-running, but most schools loved his outlook as a defensive player. I haven’t seen his exact testing numbers or much work at EDGE, but his D1 offers + high GLIAC offers tell me all I need to know. Colleges see a very high ceiling, and I frankly do too.
