transferred to Oceanside after previously transferring to Santa Margarita earlier this offseason.
He started some games at JSerra last season and threw for 507 yards with five touchdowns and ran for a touchdown. Smith-Mayall throws a good ball and can buy time scrambling with his legs. He needs to improve his decision-making with the football but he has the tools and arm talent to be a top quarterback in San Diego if he puts it all together.

Smith-Mayall missed last season with an injury but would have competed with a Big 10 commit for the starting quarterback position at JSerra.
He looked very good at the Battle at the Beach tournament last weekend. Smith-Mayall, was poised, spread the ball around well and had great touch on the deep throws.

The JSerra product has tremendous arm talent and had some of the best throwing mechanics of any quarterback on the day. He has a snappy release with good throw power and accuracy, both on the run and in the pocket and can zip it into tight windows on both in-breaking and out breaking routes with proper throw anticipation and spin. Although still developing his frame and adding weight, he does a good job using his entire body to put power behind his throws and get the ball where it needs to be. Back and healthy, he is in line for a huge Junior season and should have a breakout year in 2025.

Smith-Mayall was impressive during the one-on-one period with his ball placement. He was frequently hitting receivers in stride or putting it where only they could have a chance to catch it. In the drills, he threw a nice ball and looked comfortable with his footwork.

Smith-Mayall is very fluid in his movements and can make various throws in a camp setting look easy.
He is behind a junior quarterback at JSerra and competes for the backup spot with another sophomore, but Smith-Mayall could start at quite a bit of schools.

Smith-Mayall is smaller than Hopkins and a year younger but he also showed plus arm strength and a nice release.
During one-on-ones he hit receivers in stride and got the ball out on time. JSerra has two quarterbacks who could start at the varsity level which is a good problem to have.
