He is equally as good as an off-the-ball linebacker as he is playing as a stand-up defensive end. At the off-the-ball position, he does a good job of reading and reacting to the play and attacking downhill. He also shows a good ability to drop in pass coverage and get his hands on balls thrown in his direction. As a stand-up defensive end, he shows off his pass-rushing ability. He can use his athleticism and speed to put pressure on quarterbacks off the edge. Houck is an outstanding player on defense.
