Wells is an up and coming edge rusher for Valor. He measures in at 6’2 240-pounds. He had 15 total tackles (6 solo, 9 assisted), 0.5 TFL, 0.5 sack, 3 QB pressures, 1 FF, and 2 FR. Wells has good athletic ability due to very good balance, acceleration, good speed, lateral quickness, and change of direction. Good initial quickness with very good hand speed. Maintains a low pad level throughout to out leverage the offensive line. Very good bend around the edge. Very good get off and block shedding. Wells has a smooth swim move and a nasty bull rush. Very good hand strength to run through blocks. Wells doesn’t stop till the ball carrier is in his grasp demonstrating his relentless pursuit. Good tackling as well. I’m excited to see how Wells continues to develop as an edge rusher!

Measuring in at 6’1 232 pounds, Wells played DL for Valor and Mile High Prep in the spring. I had the pleasure of seeing him play when I was an intern for MHP. He can play! He’s very coachable as well. Through 6 games played, and 2 started, he had 7 tackles, 1 sack and 1 TFL. Wells has good athletic ability due to very good acceleration, good speed, and lateral agility. Good quickness out of his stance, engaging in a low pad level to get leverage on the OL. Good hand speed. Very good get off, with disengaging from the block. Very good block shedding. Wells demonstrates his mental processing by not getting fooled on read options plays. His very good competitive toughness is throughout the tape. He plays through the whistle, helping his teammates finish tackles, or using his relentless pursuit to cause pressure on the QB. He has a very high ceiling, and will be turning heads this fall.

A prospect I was very excited to learn about, Wells is an excellent looking prospect as a defensive end/edge/linebacker type of player. Part of a Carnation Bowl-winning Chatfield program from this past year, Wells is a high-motor kid that uses a combination of speed and quickness to defeat offensive linemen that are slow out of their stance. Right now he’s a good mix of athleticism and power, with a thicker build. I’m interested in seeing his progression over the next couple years, as Wells is set to tackle the field for Valor Christian in the fall.
