Here are a few 2024 running backs to know who are on the verge of breakout seasons in 2021.
Jordan Triplett – Frederica Academy
He may not play against the best competition down in the Savannah area, but Triplett is a star in the making in the peach state. He’s an excellent runner who took the region by storm last year as a freshman. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder is a big play waiting to happen with great speed and strength for his size. He knows how to make a defender miss, he’s tough to tackle for just one defender, and was a true game-changer last season. Triplett was one of the most productive backs in the entire state last year, regardless of class, rushing 202 times for 1,704 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also caught 8 passes for 113 yards and one more touchdown. Expect Triplett to continue running over defenses in 2021 and beyond with the possibility to landing some major Power 5 offers down the road.
Kam Davis – Dougherty
The two-sport star from Albany has five-star potential both on the gridiron and on the baseball diamond due his natural athleticism. In just five games last year as a freshman, Davis proves he was one of the top athletes in all of South Georgia, showing toughness and the ability to score on any particular play. He lined up at quarterback as a freshman but he’ll likely play running back in college a few years down the road. He loves contact, he’s already as strong as the upperclassmen he plays against, and has good speed for his size. He passed for 650 yards and rushed for over 550 yards and five more touchdowns. He’s incredibly coordinated and has a very bright future on the football field. That’s is he doesn’t try his hand at baseball after high school. He’s a South Georgia prospect who is expected to have a monster sophomore season this fall. He currently holds offers from FSU, Maryland, and others with more likely on the way.
Ryder Stewart – West Forsyth
When senior running back Daba Fofana went down towards the end of the 2020 season, freshman Ryder Stewart stepped up in a big way and helped lead the Wolverines to a deep playoff run. He’s not the biggest guy, but Stewart plays way bigger than his frame. He’s tough, changes directions well, and does’t mind picking up a big block to help his quarterback. He’s a quick, elusive back who can really help in the screen game as well. Stewart made some key plays at the end of the season against some top-notch competition. He’s a slipper ball-carrier who played better and better as the Wolverines got deeper into the playoffs. He may not stand out immediately due to his size, but he’s easy to notice with the ball in his hands. He has a nose for the end-zone and should see lots of opportunities to make plays in the fall of 2021.
