KHSAA State Championship Week: Best Team Performances

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After the final week of high school football action in the Bluegrass State during the KHSAA State Championships, it's time to revisit the final matchups in each class and highlight some of the best team performances during state title competition. Without any further ado, here's my list of the winning programs to keep an eye on heading into the offseason.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Trinity Shamrocks (11-4) </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>At the top of my list of best team performances is the Trinity Shamrocks, who walked away with the Class 6A title thanks to a commanding 41-20 victory over Bryan Station last week. In addition to the Shamrocks being extremely well-coached, Trinity's ability to adapt and make plays on offense made a huge difference against the Defenders as unpredictable passing and a nearly unstoppable run game overwhelmed the opposing defense and helped lift the Shamrocks to their 28th state title in program history.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. Bowling Green Purples (12-3)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I am additionally impressed with the Bowling Green Purples, who earned the Class 5A title in a 28-14 win over Cooper this past week. It's no surprise that Bowling Green ran away with their eighth championship win in program history considering how impactful the Purples' offense has been in big games this year. The Purples have gamechangers at every position as their offense quickly overwhelms opposing defenses both on the ground and in the air. Bowling Green's defense also impressed with their ability to make crucial stops and consistently apply pressure on the quarterback.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. Boyle County Rebels (15-0)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Earning the number three spot on my list of best teams is the Boyle County Rebels, who claimed a 41-0 shutout victory over Covington Catholic last week to finish the season as the undefeated Class 4A champions. Boyle County was not messing around on the field this season and was even more determined to defend their flawless regular season record during the playoffs, instantly blasting Covington Catholic on both sides of the ball with an assortment of playmakers that can lock down the backfield defensively and breakaway from coverage on the offensive end to get open for the deep pass.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Christian Academy of Louisville Centurions (22-2)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Coming in at number four on my list of best team performances is the Christian Academy of Louisville Centurions, who walked away with the Class 3A title, handing Bell County a 41-16 rout in the championship game last week. The Centurions' offense was highly explosive, overwhelming Bell County's defense early on down the stretch with strong deep passing and efficient catching from the Centurions' receiving core. CAL's defense also closed out the season strong, forcing turnovers and making crucial stops on the other side. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Mayfield Cardinals (13-1)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I'm also very impressed with the Mayfield Cardinals, who collected the Class 2A title in a thrilling 53-48 victory over Owensboro Catholic this past week. On top of a solid defensive effort from Mayfield, the Cardinals relied heavily on the run game, using their physical rush and durability in the pocket to outlast a very talented Owensboro Catholic squad. The Cardinals also stood out with their ability to apply pressure and disrupt passing on the defensive end.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">6. Pikeville Panthers (12-2)</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Also worth mentioning on my list of top team performances is the Pikeville Panthers, who recorded an impressive 21-0 shutout win over Raceland last week to claim the Class 1A title for the third-consecutive season. The Panthers made their presence known both offensively and defensively, keeping their opponent out of scoring range while blasting past the defense in the backfield and along the edge, piling on several touchdowns to close out their season as champions.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
