Level 3 had me heading towards northwest WI to take in a battle between two stud teams playing in the lower divisions. Undefeated Boyceville played host to one loss Edgar with a trip to Level 4 of the WIAA Playoffs on the line. It was a great night for football. Cold, but no precipitation or wind. The stage was set for us to see the best vs the best.
One of Edgar’s best started the game off hot as senior RB Karter Butt Karter Butt 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Edgar | 2024 State WI punched in a TD with 5:32 to go in the first for the 6-0 lead. On the next drive, Edgar’s special teams stepped up big as RB/LB Jase Apfelbeck Jase Apfelbeck 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Edgar | 2025 WI busted through to block the punt. The ball ended up rolling out of the endzone for the safety, and 8-0 Edgar lead. Just before the first quarter expired, Edgar again busted into the endzone on the back of RB Karter Butt Karter Butt 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Edgar | 2024 State WI . Boyceville was the ones to start the 2nd quarter strong. Senior RB Nick Olson was able to find a seam and show off the game breaking speed down the sideline for the long TD run. Karter Butt Karter Butt 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Edgar | 2024 State WI wasn’t going to give Boyceville any space to catch up in the game, though. He responded by busting off a 54 yard TD run to put Edgar up 23-6. Boyceville did great to not give up as Edgar continued to pour it on. Stud sophomore FB/DL Zach Hellendrung Zach Hellendrung 6'4" | 225 lbs | ATH Boyceville | 2026 State WI reeled in a 4th down pass and was able to score a 43 yard receiving TD. Just before the first half whistle blew, Karter Butt Karter Butt 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Edgar | 2024 State WI added another notch in the TD column from 4 yards out.
Boyceville were the ones who started the second half off hot. We saw them release WR Caden Wold Caden Wold 6'0" | 160 lbs | WR Boyceville | 2024 State WI on the Edgar secondary, and it resulted in big plays. The first being an 82 yard receiving TD. Edgar ensured their would be no comeback, though. It was again RB Karter Butt Karter Butt 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Edgar | 2024 State WI , however this time the RB threw a pass to TE Brett Baumgartner from 18 yards out. Boyceville’s Wold again broke free on the next possession, going 49 yards for another deep TD pass. It was too little too late for Boyceville. Edgar proved to be too dominant on the ground. They added two 4th quarter TDs by senior Karter Butt Karter Butt 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Edgar | 2024 State WI giving him a career day on top of a career record breaking night. Edgar will advance to Level 4 as they continue the road to Madison!
Top Prospects of the Game
Stats: 37 Carries, 317 Yards, 6 TDs, 1/1, 18 Yards, 1 TD, 6 TacklesrnIt was a single game, and career record setting night for the Edgar senior. There was no doubt coming into the night what Edgar wanted to do. Even with that, Boyceville couldn’t slow down the bowling ball of an RB. Butt is a such a violent runner. His contact balance and power made him a nightmare to wrap up and drag down. Karter piled up the yards after contact and the broken tackles had to definitely be in double digits. The senior also showed off patience to allow blocks to develop. Once the lane was there, Karter would attack it and punish defenders. This is the most slept on RB in WI. Give him the look he deserves.
Highlights
In the trenches leading the way for Edgar was senior LT Harrison Graveen Harrison Graveen 6’1″ | 255 lbs | OL Edgar | 2024 State WI . The senior impressed me with his athleticism. In the trenches, Harrison showed the quick feet to get himself in position to have leverage advantage and get himself between the ball and defender. Graveen also showed he could get out in space. On one of Butt’s long TD runs we saw Harrison sprint 50+ yards to get in front and throw a block. Graveen also showed that he had the strength to get the movement in the trenches that opened up plenty of space to run through. Harrison is a sleeper in the offensive trenches.
Brett Baumgartner
Brett Baumgartner
Stats: 1 Reception, 18 Yards, 1 TD, 6 Tackles, 1 PBUrnBrett is a hidden gem that the D3 level should check out. He has position versatility between TE and DE/OLB. At TE, Brett showed he could get deep and high point in traffic. However, his most impressive work was acting as an extra OL, opening up running lanes, and breaking contain. On defense, Brett set a strong edge as Boyceville tried to get their run game going. Brett is a raw prospect, but he has size, solid feet, and budding strength. Check him out.
Leyton didn’t have a huge stat night. He didn’t need to on offense. Karter had such a dominant night they didn’t have to show their hand in the passing game at all. If they needed to they had a dominant target to go at. Leyton is a very long target with speed to burn. He can take the top off the defense, and has the hands to make the difficult catches in traffic. Schuett also uses that speed and read/recognition traits to be all over the field as a safety. He is a reliable athlete to have deep covering a large zone. Keep an eye on the explosive junior.
Teams looking for a steal at WR need to get familiar with Caden Wold Caden Wold 6’0″ | 160 lbs | WR Boyceville | 2024 State WI . The 6′ 160 lbs senior WR caught two passes all game, but changed the game with them. Speed is the name of the game for the senior. He bursts off the line, eats up cushion, stacks DBs, and easily tracks the ball deep downfield. Caden has track speed that has earned him college offers. He has proven to be more than a track speedster. Wold runs solid routes, and has soft hands. He is a mismatch nightmare that can win with speed and short area quickness/agility.
Zach Hellendrung Zach Hellendrung 6'4" | 225 lbs | ATH Boyceville | 2026 State WI
Zach Hellendrung Zach Hellendrung 6'4" | 225 lbs | ATH Boyceville | 2026 State WI
Zach is only a sophomore, but he is quickly becoming a need to know athlete in the state of WI. He has a budding frame at 6’3″ 225 lbs that fits his roles at FB/TE/DL very well. The big frame is loaded with power too. Both with the ball in his hands, and as a lead blocker. Zach runs behind his pads, and runs his feet through is blocks that digs LBs out of lanes. Zach has soft hands and enough speed to be able to be a mismatch with LBs in the passing game. I’m excited to watch how he gross and develops over the next two years. He can make an impact in many ways. I’m excited to see what position he starts to fit best for the next level.
A need to know senior OL that has been slipping under the radar is the massive 6’4″ 310 lbs right guard out of Boyceville. The senior impressed me on a snap to snap basis. He consistently was able to beat his man with strength. Boyceville had their most success attacking the gaps he was responsible for. Kaiser is light on his feet, allowing him to always get in proper position to wall off the DL, and then was able to drive them out of the trenches. Kaiser has a jarring first punch, and his lower body bulldozed his opponents. The senior also made several plays with his strength while playing DL. Get on this kid now.
