Week 2: Coopersville vs West Catholic Game and Prospect Preview

The Coopersville Broncos and West Catholic Falcons come into this marquee matchup 1-0. Some key similarities between these programs are both teams coming off of a convincing week 1 victory. Each of these programs are also starting elite sophomores at the signal caller position. I have actually had the pleasure of coaching both [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith'] from West Catholic and [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly'] at Coopersville, so this matchup just means a little more to me.

The offensive and defensive lines for the Coopersville Broncos are anchored by senior Central Michigan commit [player_tooltip player_id='1550079' first='Hunter' last='Hankamp'] and junior [player_tooltip player_id='1609917' first='Calvin' last='Rossman']. Coopersville also has a pair of senior linebackers in Nash Devries and Ben Skinner that do a good job of getting right downhill to ball carriers. Senior receiver Wyatt Kloosterhouse and sophomore RB Corbin Motman help lighten the offensive load for [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly'].

The Falcons are protected up front by Senior Javon Varnsdeel, with Junior Grayson Ewald anchoring the defensive line. Senior Collin abram is as versatile as they come around West Michigan. Starting at RB and MLB, right now he is the X factor for this Falcons team. West Catholic also has two very intriguing young prospects. Starting QB [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith'] who burst on to the scene last week with his first varsity start, as well as Freshman CB [player_tooltip player_id='2371181' first='Kenyon' last='Rembert']. By my estimations Rembert is one of only a handful of freshman to start on varsity week 1!

I expect this to be a high octane, high scoring bloodbath that'll come down to a couple possessions. I feel both squads have their advantages, West Catholic in the run game and Coopersville in the trenches overall, but it'll come done to conditioning and execution as both teams look to make it to 2-0.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for access to all of my coverage on the Michigan High School football scene! Essa Kellah, @ CoachKNoDuke
