Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

After a little deliberation, I decided to check out Regina-Wilton in Week 1 of the Iowa high school football season. I'd scouted the teams in their state semifinals games at the UNI-Dome in November and was interested to see what they might do for an encore in 2026.

The Regals controlled the action beginning in the second quarter. They kept pulling away en route to a 31-0 victory. I wrote about what I saw in the contest and posted a photo gallery from it as well.

Here's a closer look at a group of student-athletes that caught my eye with their performances:

Parizek isn't a new name around here. He'd established himself as a prospect of note before I saw him kick off his junior season against Wilton. In these cases, it's valuable to check the progress in person, though. Parizek definitely grew physically, an inch taller and 30 pounds heavier than where we had him listed last year. It's led to more physicality for the two-way lineman. And the good news is that there's plenty of room to add more mass and strength without the loss of the agility and fluidness in his game that gives him a high ceiling. Parizek looks natural at left offensive tackle with a quick get-off and smooth feet. He sets up well in pass protection, utilizing his active hands and balance in controlling his opponent. There's leg drive and leverage working in run blocking. That said, I like his potential on defense. The upside as an every-down menace on the D-Line is tantalizing.

Smith was a player that took a significant step forward from last season when I scouted him in the 2026 season opener at Regina. The junior was operating as Wilton's left tackle on offense and moving around making plays on the defensive front. Smith stands out for his physical nature of play. He uses the footwork, hand fighting and balance that help him on the wrestling mat to complement his strength on the gridiron. Smith plays with good pad level. At left offensive tackle, the junior sets up smoothly and keeps defenders in front of him in pass protection. The leg drive impresses in the running game. Smith gets off of the ball quickly on the D-Line. Again, his hands and balance help in winning matchups. He's one to watch moving forward.

I got a sense of what Hegelheimer could do last season when he was backing up a talented upperclassman. The ability and skills to be a feature back were inside there. The junior proved that to be the case in the 2026 season-opener, when he carried 16 times for 135 yards (8.4 YPC) and a touchdown in a 36-0 victory. His three receptions for 50 yards and a score illustrated his well-rounded game. Hegelheimer also posted a tackle for loss, made all three of his extra points and had a touchback on three kickoffs. As a running back prospect, the Regal ball carrier flows well with the action, exhibiting patience and vision. There's burst through the creases and slipperiness in space. Hegelheimer is powerful in his lower half, breaking tackles and run over defenders.

Hook got his feet wet taking reps on the Wilton varsity in 2025, when he also developed his game on the lower levels of the program. The work looked like it was paying off when I watched the junior compete against Regina in the '26 season opener. Against a Regal offense with players on the outside to stretch the field, Hook did well in matching up with multiple receivers. His height and long arms aided him in creating smaller windows for the quarterbacks. Hook displayed smooth actions in changing directions when back peddling. There's closing speed and leaping ability as well. Hook's frame has room to fill out and add strength while holding the speed and athleticism.

As if opponents didn't have enough to deal with competing against Wallace, now Regina has decided to let him carry the football. It can't be nice seeing 6-4, 240 coming at you as a defender. It sure looked unpleasant when I watched Wallace plow into the end zone for a pair of touchdowns in the 2026 season-opener against Wilton. He also caught five passes as a tight end and created a night of problems for the Beaver offense lining up around the Regal defense. Wallace is a special athlete that looks more physically imposing each time I scout him. He's explosive, strong and powerful. It's been fun watching his game grow since he was impacting the action as a freshman. It also will be interesting to watch what the Minnesota coaching staff does with him on the next level. There's a path to success at multiple positions. The ceiling is high.
