PRZTN Top Performers: Week Three POTW

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Last week provided a lot of strong individual performances here in the Volunteer State that gave us a lot of options for our Prep Redzone Tennessee player of the week. Which players stood out the most and took home top honors coming out of week three? Find out below in out latest top performers! </h2>     Prep Redzone TN Statewide Player of the Week    Stats: 22 carr. for 345 yds & 5 TD's   His Rockets team didn't need his big play services in the first two weeks of action but last Friday against Mt. Pleasant, they did and Mitchell delivered with a near 350 yard rushing game along with five touchdowns. It was yet another superb showing from this junior running back that has produced multiple 300 plus rushing games throughout his Forrest career. Mitchell was dynamic against the Tigers where they could not get a grasp on him due to his combination of athleticism, balance, power and speed. Currently ranked as the top junior running back by Prep Redzone Tennessee, Mitchell is under recruited right now but more games like this may finally force big time college programs to look in his direction.    - - -   Offensive Player of the Week    Stats: 13-16 passing for 331 yds & 3 TD's (1 rushing TD)   I feel like this won't be the last time this sophomore signal caller earns this award as Brick brings some of the best pure arm talent to the field that we have in the Volunteer State. The Purple Wave quarterback was stellar in his team's commanding victory over Lausanne last week where Brick only threw three incompletions and produced four total touchdowns on the night, three through the air and one on the ground. His command of the offense along with his precision passing were big factors in the Purple Wave's big non-region win over the Lynx that helped get Christian Brothers on the map as a legit team coming out of the D2-Class AAA ranks.    - - -   Defensive Player of the Week    Stats: 9 tcks, 2 TFL, 1 PD & 2 sacks   The Bulldogs pulled off a masterful upset last week over region foe Oakland with Jaeger and the Smyrna defense being a major reason behind the victory. This senior edge rusher, who has been raising his stock since the off-season was an absolute menace in their win as Jaeger consistently lived in the Patriots backfield. This 6'4 edge rusher generated two sacks on the night while also making several plays against the Oakland rushing attack. Jaeger was a difficult guy for the Patriots blockers to handle. His length, speed and motor was on point in this game. There is good potential residing with Jaeger and if he continues to perform like this, his college interest will grow and offers may eventually arrive.     - - -   O-line Unit of the Week   East Nashville Eagles   Key Players: [player_tooltip player_id='1571426' first='Gonni' last='Martin'], [player_tooltip player_id='906125' first='Zamari' last='Davis'], [player_tooltip player_id='1565681' first='Devin' last='Phillips'], Terry Bowden   - The Eagles put together an outstanding offensive output in their 52-40 win over Hillsboro in “Week Three” with the O-line being a standout unit behind the effort. The East Nashville offense generated a lot of yards in defeating the Burros and none of that would have happened without the play up front from the Eagles offensive front five. The O-line did a great job of keeping their quarterback clean and allowing him to run the show while also opening holes in the run game to help provide offensive balance. If the Eagles are to compete for a Class 2A state title this year, their offensive line must be the unit that leads the way and they have the talent in the trenches to get them to Chattanooga.    - - - - -    Coach of the Week   Mark Williams - Smyrna    - Major props have to be given to the Smyrna coaching staff for their prep work and game plan last week in their upset victory over perennial 6A power Oakland. They also have to be given credit for getting their players focused on the task at hand considering the Bulldogs were 0-2 going into the matchup. Once the game got going, confidence was built and the players competed hard till the very end where a two point conversion put them over the top and into the win column. This was a major upset that nobody saw coming as Oakland has been running rough shots over their region and the Mid-State area for years now. This was also the first victory for Smyrna over Oakland since 2011. Maybe it's a game that helps the Bulldogs turn the corner with their program and begins to push them down the right path moving forward.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepredzone.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2026/09/mawilliams.webp?w=787" alt="" class="wp-image-2387115" style="aspect-ratio:0.92156068007765;width:242px;height:auto" /></figure>   - - - - - - - - -    Positional Players of the Week   QB POTY: [player_tooltip player_id='1668630' first='Dallas' last='Covington'] - East Nashville (Stats: 17-22 passing for 316 yds & 3 TD's (75 yds rushing & 2 TD's)   - Scoring 52 points in the Eagles win over Hillsboro last week, Covington was a major catalyst behind the East Nashville offensive explosion where he produced nearly 400 yards of total offense while generating five touchdowns. This was the best individual performance from Covington this year where the future Western Ky signal caller spun the ball all over the field while also using his legs to cause damage. Many more performances like this from Covington will be needed as the Eagles chase after a Class 2A state title.    RB POTY: [player_tooltip player_id='2347347' first='Edward' last='Agnew'] - Humboldt  (Stats: 10 carr. for 115 yds & 3 TD's - 4 rec. for 110 yds & 1 TD)   - The Vikings moved to 3-0 on the season after their 59-28 win over South Fulton with Agnew being a major force behind the victory. This senior ball carrier produced big play after big play throughout the game where he ran for over 100 yards and three touchdowns while catching four balls for over 100 yards and one score against the Red Devils. Agnew is an athletic runner with college potential. If he continues to produce games like this, more and more college coaches will start paying attention.    WR POTY: [player_tooltip player_id='1670023' first='Ashton' last='Fuller'] - Unaka ‘28  (Stats: 12 rec. for 222 yds & 3 TD's)   - Even though his Rangers team took a loss last week, Fuller had a monster performance, producing 12 catches for 200 plus yards and three touchdowns on the night. Ever since Fuller stepped onto the field as a freshman, he has done nothing but perform at a high level. If this East Tennessee product played at a bigger program, he would be garnering more attention due to his ball skills and playmaking abilities.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepredzone.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2026/09/ashfuller.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-2387117" style="width:293px;height:auto" /></figure>   ATH POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='2210181' first='Kristian' last='Jones'] - Ezell-Harding ‘29  (Stats: 11 carr. for 294 yds & 3 TD's; 39 yds receiving - 4 tcks & 1 Int on Def.)   - This is the best performance Jones has put forth thus far in his high school and it might not be his last. Athletic with two-way playmaking abilities, the Eagles sophomore did a little bit of everything in his team's ten point win over Franklin Christian. When the staff needed a big offensive play to happen, they put the ball into Jones hands. He also was a ball hawk on defense that made several key tackles, including a big interception.    DL/Edge POTW: Carson McDaniel - McMinn Co. ‘28  (Stats: 21 tcks, 2.5 TFL, 2 FF, 1 sack & 1 blocked FG)   - Last week was tough for the Cherokees as they fell to Walker Valley but it wasn't from the lack of play out of this junior edge rusher. McDaniel was a machine in last week's game against the Mustangs as he harassed the quarterback on a consistent basis while also being a force against the run game. His size and length also played a role, especially in blocking a field goal. McDaniel has been a productive player so far this year and someone boosting his stock as a possible future college edge rusher.    LB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='932843' first='Eli' last='Overton'] - Dickson Co.  (Stats: 6 tcks, 6 TFL & 4 sacks)   - The tackle total isn't large but the activity was as Overton produced one of his better high school games of his career last week in the Cougars victory over Creek Wood. The Red Hawks quarterback definitely knew about Overton by the end of the game as this senior linebacker harassed him all night, producing four total sacks. The Cougars linebacker has had a good start to his senior season, showing improvement in several areas, especially his play recognition and speed.    DB POTW: [player_tooltip player_id='1162582' first='Jaden' last='Butler'] - Haywood  (Stats: 3 PD & 3 Int's - 7 carr. for 50 yds & 1 TD)   -  Last week in the Tomcats victory over Craigmont, anytime the Chiefs wanted to throw the ball, Butler was there to either break up the pass or pick it off. This senior safety produced three interceptions on the night, which is a major feat to accomplish as you don't see it that often. Butler is an athletic ball hawk with range, size and instincts for finding the football.
