The first four weeks of the season give us a good look at which players are making an early impact and putting themselves on the recruiting radar. For seniors especially, this stretch of film is essential, as college coaches evaluate current-season tape to see how prospects perform against live competition and whether their game translates to the next level. This spotlight takes a closer look at players with film from their first four games that colleges need to check out.    [player_tooltip player_id='1677416' first='Chadney' last='Stanback'] has been a major playmaker for Bluefield on both sides of the ball through the first four weeks, and his work on offense has only added to his athletic profile as a prospect. The 2027 LB has high-level quickness getting downhill and can split offensive linemen with his speed, giving him a chance to disrupt plays before they develop. Stanback reads and reacts quickly and has very good closing speed once he finds the football, making him difficult to evade. He's also shown pass-rush ability at middle linebacker, adding another dimension to his defensive game. Stanback is a fluid athlete who has gotten off to an impressive start to his senior season and should be drawing more attention from college programs.      [player_tooltip player_id='1627576' first='Carson' last='Knight'] has looked the part of one of the top linebackers in the state through the first four weeks, as a physical presence in the middle of the Martinsburg defense. The 2027 LB is a big, powerful athlete who added some significant size since last season, and that added mass has translated directly to his play between the tackles. Knight is at his best downhill, meeting blockers head-on in the run game and bringing the physicality needed to win at the point of attack. He welcomes contact and does a great job attacking the line of scrimmage. Knight has established himself as a tone-setter at middle linebacker and continues to show why he belongs in the conversation among the state's top linebackers.      North Marion has gotten a major boost from 2027 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1087022' first='Parker' last='Bigelow'] since he transferred in from rival Fairmont Senior. He's quickly established himself as a leader in the middle of the Huskies' defense and helped North Marion snap its 23-game losing streak to the Polar Bears last week. He's totaled 38 tackles, 7 TFLs, and a sack through the first four games, consistently being around the football. Bigelow is a thumping middle linebacker who welcomes contact and does a good job reading plays quickly and attacking downhill. He squares up well between the tackles and has been a sound tackler throughout the early season, making for a good start to his senior year.      2027 George Washington LB [player_tooltip player_id='1616166' first='Derek' last='Valentine'] has been a versatile piece for the Patriots this season. He's seeing time at both linebacker and defensive back for the 4-0 Patriots, while also increasing his offensive role that adds another example of the versatility and athleticism he brings to the field. Valentine has a linebacker frame but moves like a safety, and that athleticism gives him an intriguing ceiling at the position. His physical tools should earn him some college looks this fall and is an underrated prospect in the 2027 class to check out.      2027 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1695997' first='Blake' last='Snodgrass'] has been a productive two-way player for Shady Spring and is off to another strong start as a senior. He's consistently put it together more each year, and the physical tools have always been evident throughout his high school career. Snodgrass has the frame and athleticism to develop into a standout at the college level, with the speed and agility to fly around the field and play comfortably in space. He's shown flashes of those traits on both sides of the ball this season, and there's significant upside in his game. Snodgrass is a talented prospect who continues to trend in the right direction as he develops.      Production has never been an issue for 2027 Mingo Central LB [player_tooltip player_id='907920' first='Taegan' last='Hackney'], and he's continuing that trend with another big start to his senior season. Hackney has 59 tackles and 8 TFLs through four games, making him one of the most productive defenders in the state early on. His motor is a major reason for that success, but he also does a good job diagnosing plays. He's a strong run stopper and a reliable tackler who consistently finishes plays and flies to the ball. Hackney has always been limited physically, but four years of high-level production can't be ignored as a prospect.      [player_tooltip player_id='1316862' first='Robert' last='Miller'] continues to showcase the versatility that makes him an intriguing hybrid prospect, and he's put it on display throughout the first four games for South Charleston. The 2027 LB has seen time at both safety and linebacker this season, giving the Black Eagles a talented athlete they can move around the defense. Miller is a fluid athlete for his size, and that athleticism gives him a high ceiling as he continues to develop. His play this season has the look of a stock-rising senior year, and his film should lead to more college programs taking a look. Miller is a prospect I expect to move up in the rankings after the season and could be in line for bigger college opportunities.      East Fairmont has leaned heavily on 2027 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1271744' first='Kaeden' last='Barr'] this season, and the senior has shown why he's become such a valuable two-way player for the Bees. Barr brings a physical build to the linebacker position, but his agility is what really stands out on defense. Barr covers ground well laterally at outside linebacker and is comfortable working in space, allowing him to stretch plays out and play good contain. He can slip around blocks and evade blocks well due to his agility. Barr is an under-the-radar linebacker in the 2027 class who deserves more attention this year.      Carson Samples has been one of the more productive linebackers in the state early this season, averaging 10 tackles per game through three contests for Winfield. The 2027 LB is currently the Generals' second-leading tackler despite facing some stiff competition to open the year. Samples is a smart football player who does a great job reading and diagnosing plays, allowing him to consistently get in the right spot and be involved in the action. He understands his assignments well and has the athleticism to capitalize once he recognizes where the ball is going. Samples lacks some of the ideal size at linebacker, but his football IQ and athleticism help him overcome that physical limitation and keep him around the football. He's an underrated linebacker in the 2027 class who college programs need to check out.      2027 Philip Barbour LB Mason Jones has been one of the most productive senior linebackers in the state through the first four weeks, and his play has been too good to overlook. He's racked up 49 tackles and 6 TFLs for the Colts and is playing some of the best football of his career. Jones is an unranked senior who lacks prototypical size, but his instincts consistently make up for that limitation. He's played a lot of football for the Colts, and that experience shows up on tape with how quickly he reads and reacts. His smaller frame can actually work to his advantage, allowing him to duck underneath blocks and shed blockers before they can get a clean shot on him. Jones is also a good athlete laterally and vertically, giving him the quickness to shoot gaps and find the football in a hurry. He's a very good small-college prospect who deserves a hard look this fall.      2027 LB Blake Coleman has been a consistent producer for Clay County throughout his high school career, and that's continued into his senior season. He leads the Panthers with 42 total tackles and a cornerstone of their defense. His wrestling background shows up in the way he plays, especially as a tackler, where he brings a physical edge and has good technique. Coleman also has good quickness and plays with a high motor, allowing him to track down ball carriers and be around the ball consistently. He may not have the ideal size for a linebacker, but his toughness, instincts, and production make him a small-college prospect to check out.      Doddridge County's identity is built around toughness and physicality, and 2027 FB/LB Dayne Murphy embodies those traits. He's been one of the leading tacklers in the state through four weeks, setting the tone from the middle of the Bulldogs' defense. Murphy is a strong athlete with good size who plays with a high motor and works hard to get to the ball. He's also a talented two-way player who has been a physical presence at fullback, adding another example of the toughness he brings to the field. He has a good 6'1 200 frame at middle linebacker and immediately stands out on tape from a physical standpoint. Huffman gets downhill quickly and is a thumping tackler, meeting ball carriers with intent and delivering a blow when he arrives. He also has good quickness flowing to the football and getting vertical. Huffman is playing himself into some D2 opportunities in my eyes and deserves a close look from college programs.      Hampshire may be in a transition year, but 2027 LB Colson Kinser is a name colleges should have on their radar. Kinser has good burst and closing speed, allowing him to shoot gaps quickly and create penetration. He also shows good lateral mobility when shuffling and scraping across the formation, helping him stay square to the ball and work toward the play. His athletic traits give him some good upside in coverage as well, adding another dimension to his game.
