<p>Every week, quarterbacks across Texas are putting their talents on display, but not every arm is getting the attention it deserves. Field Generals: DOT's Underrated Gunslingers highlights the quarterbacks who are quietly making plays, commanding their offenses, and showing the ability to make things happen through the air and on the ground. These are the field generals who may be flying under the radar right now, but their play on Friday nights is giving them a chance to change that conversation.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">David has been productive through the first half of the season, throwing for 1,021 yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 171 yards and three scores on the ground. He has some sneaky athletic ability that shows up when he gets outside the pocket and gives defenses another problem to deal with. The 7.1 yards per carry is a good sign of his ability to make plays with his legs without being viewed strictly as a running quarterback. David has shown he can make plays through the air, and the next step is continuing to improve his consistency, decision making and ability to make throws under pressure. Overall, he's having a strong midseason and is a quarterback worth keeping an eye on as the season moves along.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Julian is off to a hot start this season, putting up 1,554 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and just two interceptions through four games. When you turn on the tape, the first thing that stands out is how relaxed he looks in the pocket. He doesn't appear rushed, keeps his eyes downfield and delivers the football with confidence to his receivers. That poise has translated into big production early in the season. His most recent performance against Bel Air HS was a statement game, completing 26-of-31 passes (83%) for 419 yards and six touchdowns while adding 41 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Julian is showing the ability to control a game from the pocket while still having enough athleticism to make plays with his legs when needed. With only two interceptions through four games, his decision making has also been a major part of his early success. If he continues to play with this level of confidence and efficiency, Julian will be one of the quarterbacks worth watching closely as the season continues.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Chase brings an interesting athletic background to the position as a two sport athlete who also competes in baseball. That overall athleticism shows up at quarterback, where he has put together 1,504 passing yards and 15 touchdowns this season. He's shown the ability to create offense and make plays, while the seven interceptions point to an area he'll need to clean up moving forward. With his multi-sport athletic ability and production, Chase is a quarterback whose development will be worth following.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Caleb has been putting together a productive season, throwing for 1,443 yards, 19 touchdowns and just four interceptions. What stands out is his ability to consistently turn opportunities into touchdowns while keeping the mistakes relatively low. The numbers show a quarterback who is having success moving the football and finishing drives. As more of the season unfolds, the big thing for Caleb will be showing that same consistency against stronger competition and when defenses start taking away his first options. The production is there, and there's plenty to build on from here.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Nick is a quarterback who immediately catches your attention when you turn on the film. He has put up 1,421 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions, but the production is only part of the story. What stands out most is his ability to make something happen with the football when the pocket breaks down or the play isn't there. He shows good creativity as a playmaker and doesn't look uncomfortable when asked to extend plays. Nick still has areas to continue developing, but the combination of production and playmaking ability gives him an intriguing foundation at the position.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Colton has thrown for 1,339 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, but one trait that really stands out on film is his toughness in the pocket. He's willing to sit in there, stay with the play and take a hit to deliver the football. That kind of pocket toughness is something you want to see from a quarterback, especially when the pressure starts coming. He has a natural throwing motion and does a good job getting the football out without adding much wasted movement. His 1,252 passing yards and 15 touchdowns show that the throws are turning into real production, while the five interceptions give him a solid starting point from a ball security standpoint. I like the way he works to get the ball to his receivers in rhythm rather than holding onto it too long. Cody will only get better throughout the season.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Brycen has caught my attention through the first half of the season, throwing for 1,231 yards, 13 touchdowns and just one interception. The ball security is a big positive at this point in the year, especially while still taking chances down the field. I like the way Brycen has managed the position so far and avoided putting his team in bad situations. There's still plenty of football left, but if he can maintain that level of decision making while continuing to develop as a passer, he'll be an interesting quarterback to follow the rest of the way.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Cayson is the type of quarterback who can make things happen when the ball is in his hands. He plays with a lot of swagger and confidence, and you can see it in the way he operates from the pocket. He seems to have a clear idea of where he wants to go with the football and doesn't hesitate once he makes his decision. That decisiveness gives his game a different feel, and it's something that stands out when watching him on tape. There's still plenty of season left, but Cayson has shown some intriguing traits to build on moving forward.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Jordan has thrown for 1,192 yards, 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions through the first half of the season. The touchdown to interception ratio immediately catches your attention and shows he has done a good job taking care of the football while still making plays. Jordan has shown the ability to put points on the board without giving defenses many extra opportunities. He does a good job identifying where he wants to go with the football pre-snap and appears comfortable attacking the matchup he likes. That decisiveness allows him to get the ball out quickly and keeps the offense from becoming stagnant. He shows a good understanding of defensive alignment and uses what he sees before the snap to help make his decision. He consistently gives his receivers a chance to make plays by putting the football in a spot where they can catch it in stride and continue upfield. His accuracy stands out on throws to different areas of the field, and he shows a good understanding of where the ball needs to be placed based on the coverage. Whether he's working underneath or pushing the ball downfield, Dylan's ability to place the football accurately is one of the biggest strengths of his game. For a quarterback, that kind of precision can make life much easier for the players around him.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">When you watch Jones' tape, one of the first things that stands out is his willingness to throw into tight windows. He isn't afraid to challenge coverage when he sees an opportunity, and he shows the arm talent and confidence to fit the ball into areas where there isn't much room for error. Jones does a good job anticipating his receivers coming open and delivering the football before the window completely opens. That aggressiveness gives his offense the ability to create completions downfield and attack defenses in areas they may not want to be challenged.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">What stands out about Jayden is his ability to spread the football around and keep all of his receivers involved. He does a good job working through the field rather than locking onto one target, which forces defenses to defend the entire formation. Jayden shows trust in his receivers and is willing to take what the defense gives him, whether that means hitting a quick completion underneath or attacking a matchup downfield. He doesn't automatically turn into a runner when he leaves the pocket — he continues to scan the field and looks for opportunities to get the ball to his receivers. That creates problems for defenses because they have to account for him as a runner while still respecting his ability to make a throw on the move. Through the first four weeks, Jaxon has thrown for 1,282 yards and nine touchdowns while completing of his passes, adding 327 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns for 1,609 total yards and 17 total touchdowns. His combination of mobility, vision and willingness to keep his eyes downfield gives him the ability to turn broken plays into explosive opportunities.</p>      <p>Christian is a quarterback who brings some intriguing traits to the position despite the numbers not jumping off the page. He has shown the ability to make plays with the football in his hands and gives the offense a quarterback who can create when the original play isn't there. His 395 passing yards and three touchdowns are a solid starting point, but the bigger thing to watch is how he continues to develop as a passer. There is a natural feel to Christian's game that gives him something to build on. He can make throws from inside the pocket while also showing the mobility to extend plays when pressure arrives.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Joe is an operator at the quarterback position, and that shows up in the way he manages the offense from snap to whistle. He plays with a good understanding of timing and rhythm, works through his progressions and generally looks comfortable making decisions with the ball in his hands. There's a level of patience to his game that stands out he doesn't always feel the need to force a throw when the first option isn't there.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">What I like about Colson is how well he gets the ball into the hands of his playmakers. He does a good job of finding his targets and giving his skill players opportunities to make something happen after the catch. He doesn't have to force the big play himself he trusts the players around him and consistently puts the ball in positions where they can make plays. He's not a quarterback who is looking to take off on every play, but when the pocket breaks down or a lane opens up, he has the athleticism to make defenses pay. His 40-of-69 passing for 836 yards and 11 touchdowns, along with 263 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns on 32 carries, shows the impact he can have both through the air and on the ground. That ability to extend plays and create with his legs when necessary adds another layer to his game and makes him an intriguing quarterback to watch in the 2027 class.</p>     <p>The 2027 quarterback class has plenty of names already getting the attention, but there is still a deep group of signal-callers waiting to force their way into the conversation. These quarterbacks have shown the arm talent, poise, athleticism and playmaking ability to make a jump as the cycle moves forward. Rankings will continue to change, offers will continue to come, and some of these names could look very different on recruiting boards a year from now. The common thread is simple: these are quarterbacks worth knowing now, before the rest of the country catches up.</p>
