Week 1 of the Nebraska high school football season featured several strong performances through the air in Class B. Five quarterbacks eclipsed 185 passing yards, with four helping their teams open the season with victories. With Week 2 approaching, each will look to match or build upon an impressive opening-week performance.

1. [player_tooltip player_id='1075673' first='Chase' last='Grow'] | Gretna East | Sr. | QB | 6'1", 198

280 passing yards | 14-of-25 | 3 TD | 0 INT

Grow sits atop the Class B passing list after throwing for 280 yards and three touchdowns in Gretna East's 27-20 victory over Norris. The senior averaged 20 yards per completion and protected the football, finishing without an interception while helping the Griffins open the season 1-0. Grow is committed to Wayne State (NE).

Week 2: Grow and undefeated Gretna East will look to build on their opening performance against 0-1 Hastings.

2. Maycen Walters | Gretna | Sr. | QB | 6'0", 170

273 passing yards | 17-of-23 | 2 TD | 1 INT

Walters was one of Class B's most efficient passers in Week 1, completing nearly 74 percent of his attempts while throwing for 273 yards and two touchdowns in Gretna's 24-10 victory over Skutt Catholic. The senior combined accuracy with production to help the Dragons start the season 1-0. Walters is a trackster as well and is currently uncommitted.

Week 2: Walters gets one of the more intriguing matchups among the passing leaders when 1-0 Gretna faces 1-0 Plattsmouth, with one of the unbeaten teams set to emerge 2-0.

3. [player_tooltip player_id='1085202' first='Evan' last='Greenfield'] | Norris | Sr. | QB | 6'2", 190

228 passing yards | 16-of-24 | 65 rushing yards

Greenfield displayed his dual-threat ability despite Norris coming up just short in a 27-20 loss to Gretna East. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior completed 16 of 24 passes for 228 yards and added 65 yards on the ground, giving him 293 total yards in the opener. Greenfield's ability to produce with both his arm and legs made him one of Class B's more productive quarterbacks in Week 1. Greenfield is currently uncommitted, also kicks and punts. A versatile athlete, Greenfield has an offer from the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) for basketball.

Week 2: Greenfield and 0-1 Norris will look to bounce back against an undefeated 1-0 Scottsbluff team.

4. [player_tooltip player_id='1649538' first='Quinn' last='Smith'] | Platteview | Jr. | QB | 6'2", 185

200 passing yards | 10-of-17 | 2 TD | 1 INT | 75 rushing yards

Smith showed plenty of dual-threat ability in Platteview's 20-12 victory over Hastings. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns while adding 75 rushing yards, accounting for 275 total yards in the Trojans' season-opening victory. Smith averaged 20 yards per completion and provided explosive production despite attempting only 17 passes. Smith a returning starter in basketball, remains uncommitted. Just a Jr., keep an eye on this kid!

Week 2: The 1-0 Trojans step up in classification to face Class A Omaha Buena Vista. The Bison may enter at 0-1, but facing a Class A opponent provides Smith and Platteview with an interesting early-season test after their impressive opener.

At 6'3 180, athletic (an accomplished basketball player), Truax has options at the next level. The 6-foot-3 senior averaged 18.5 yards per completion and helped the Minutemen find enough offense to escape with the two-point victory and a 1-0 start. Truax is an unaccomplished basketball player and is currently uncommitted. With great size and athleticism Truax's next level future is bright!

Week 2: Truax and undefeated Lexington will look to move to 2-0 when they take on 0-1 Gering.

For more coverage, evaluation and information, follow:

https://twitter.com/NebrPrepRedZone
