BOILING SPRINGS | After a couple of one-sided matchups in the District Two Jamboree at Boiling Springs, the host Bulldogs found themselves in a defensive slugfest with JL Mann.

A guy who threw some defensive haymakers a year ago landed what proved to be the knockout punch.

[player_tooltip player_id='1819842' first='Tyvion' last='Hall'] - who had three defensive touchdowns last year - notched one on special teams when he scooped up a punt snap that got away and turned it into a touchdown for the Bulldogs to give them a 7-0 lead with just more than four minutes to play in the first quarter of their matchup, the Bulldogs' only points in a 7-3 win.

"Just go get the ball," Hall said of his focus on the play. "That's what I do. See the ball, get the ball. Coaches talk to us about special teams a lot, so I just tried to go get the ball and make a play. It feels good that I can kind of pick up from what I did last year. But I want to do better this year."

The defense made it stand up. [player_tooltip player_id='1036731' first='Dennis' last='Glenn'] made a ton of plays up front, while [player_tooltip player_id='1665369' first='Djay' last='Leak'] was fantastic in coverage for the Bulldogs. [player_tooltip player_id='1822369' first='Jamarcus' last='Means'] turned in a couple of big hits in the secondary, limiting a couple of gains and breaking up a pass on a particularly violent collision.

Offensively, the Bulldogs had some success on the ground with [player_tooltip player_id='1819841' first='Kyron' last='Tobler'] and RJ Byrd. They found room behind [player_tooltip player_id='1672759' first='Ejayy' last='George'], [player_tooltip player_id='1822366' first='Jake' last='Henderson'], and the guys up front, particularly late in the contest.

Mann's defense turned in a good night as well, with [player_tooltip player_id='1809307' first='Shaun' last='Carvalho'] making some impressive plays. The Patriots' points came on a Phillip Georgopoulos field goal. [player_tooltip player_id='1821180' first='Harrison' last='Knight'] had a good night at WR, hooking up with [player_tooltip player_id='1840061' first='Gage' last='Watkins'] on a couple of good gains.

Dorman 34, Woodmont 0

In the second segment of the night, Dorman showed off a stout defense and a steady offense in a 34-0 win over Woodmont.

The strength of Dorman's front seven has been the story surrounding the Cavaliers' expectations, and they did not disappoint. [player_tooltip player_id='1702151' first='James' last='Porter'], [player_tooltip player_id='2163695' first='Olamide' last='Salami'] and company provided pressure up front from the very beginning.

Gibson made an immediate impact on a defensive line that lost a pair of all-stars last season. He provides a big, athletic body off the edge and is physical enough to plug holes as well.

The Cavaliers' front seven is expected to be the strength of the team, and Gibson already looks right at home and as a big part of the mix, even though he's just a sophomore.

If Gibson can continue to provide the spark he gives the Cavaliers' defensive front, he's got the potential to be special.

[player_tooltip player_id='1818140' first='Antwone' last='Tarrence'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1818145' first='Jalaal' last='Deck'] also brought some heat up front for Dorman That pressure led to a pair of early turnovers, and Dorman cashed in immediately. [player_tooltip player_id='1816266' first='Isaac' last='Tate'] returned a fumble for a touchdown, while [player_tooltip player_id='1708614' first='Jabez' last='Thomas'] had a 27-yard interception return for a score on Woodmont's next drive.

Thomas played some short yardage QB, and led a successful drive on the Cavaliers' last possession of the night from the conventional QB spot. That one was capped by a touchdown by [player_tooltip player_id='2106758' first='Carter' last='Nash'], his third of the night.

Woodmont did settle in and move the ball, with the Wildcats getting some good gains on the ground from RBs [player_tooltip player_id='2104680' first='Nymerius' last='Taylor'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1732409' first='Devonte' last='Taylor']. Landon Duffany made a tough catch over the middle on a late drive that turned out to be Woodmont's best of the game.

Chesnee 34, Southside 6

The fireworks started early in the first segment of the night, as Chesnee took just two plays to score on the way to a dominant win over Southside.

[player_tooltip player_id='1809232' first='Evan-Reece' last='Lawter'] ran for a touchdown and threw for another as the Eagles opened a big lead and cruised to the win. Brymier Miller and Taven Pesaro both ran for Chesnee scores, while [player_tooltip player_id='1809771' first='Marquez' last='Franklin'] had several big runs for the Eagles. [player_tooltip player_id='1825206' first='Bryce' last='Horton'] caught Reece-Lawter's scoring pass, while [player_tooltip player_id='1816440' first='Carter' last='Gowan'] provided Chesnee's final points of the night.

Chesnee's defense looked solid, with Gavin Miller notching a later interception to help lead the way.

Southside got on the board with a 70-yard touchdown from Braysen Sullivan to Mike McKinney. Tyson Pepper picked up some tough yardage for the Tigers, and Tay Davis played well defensively, flying to the ball and providing a couple of big hits.
