Transfers Making Big Impact on 2028 Rankings

Ten percent.   It's an awful completion percentage for a quarterback. An even worse look for a team's win-loss record.   But the impact of the figure the last two years has greater meaning in the state of South Carolina. Over that time frame - which covers the window of the SCHSL's nearly obliterated rules on players leaving one school for another - our data is showing that approximately 10 percent of each class rankings on our site will include players who have transferred at least once.   Thanks to even more player-friendly laws enacted by the South Carolina state legislature (again, laws, not SCHSL policies), the trend isn't likely to decrease any time soon. As such, we aren't shocked to see transfers holding significant sway on our updated Class of 2028 rankings.   To be clear, rarely would we immediately bump a player up because of a transfer. Every time a player changes schools, the number of variables that arise are often too much to make a fair or accurate prediction.    But that leads to us two important categories with how we're divvying these up:   1. Players who transferred during the 2024-2025 school year and have already had a year in their current systems   2. Those who are still adjusting to new programs after transfers since the conclusion of the 2025 season    The latter group includes six players inside our overall Top 25, among others. But for these purposes, we're focusing on the first crop.   They boost a list of north of 40 players in our charts who have moved at least once. And while all of their circumstances or reasons are all their own, we can't deny what the changes mean for the next two seasons.   Here are 10 of the most impactful ones we expect for the duration of the 2026 season.   [player_tooltip player_id='1672851' first='Ziggy' last='Offord'] DB/WR, AC Flora   Offord had a damn good excuse to change schools after his dad, Willie, accepted the Falcons' top job. No one batted an eye when Ziggy went, too. But for as much talent as AC Flora has, Offord is going to make his presence felt on both sides of the ball. He already understands the system and is going to see plenty of targets and get tasked with covering the best opposing receiver.   [player_tooltip player_id='1822994' first='Gerardo' last='Segura'] K, Gaffney   The player known as “Gugu” is one of the top specialists in the state, something he established for himself during his time at Hartsville. After moving to the Upstate, Segura almost assuredly increased the spotlight on himself. Gaffney has been known for its exciting finishes and high-profile moments. It's a matter of time until one of those comes down to him.   [player_tooltip player_id='2044503' first='Maxwell' last='Curry'] WR, Indian Land   There's a strong possibility you've heard of Curry's dad, Aaron. He was a first-round NFL pick in 2009 after a standout career at Wake Forest. We're never going to say a high school player - even with a bloodline like this one - is NFL bound. But we're here to tell you Maxwell has got some skills. Prior to moving to the area from North Allegheny (Penn.), Curry, was a standout on both sides of the ball. His film is legit, and his impact should be, too.   [player_tooltip player_id='1818414' first='Josiah' last='Robinson'] LB, Dutch Fork   After notching 124 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as a sophomore at River Bluff, Robinson helped create a waterfall of incoming talent to the most successful program in the state the last 12 years. Dutch Fork lost several of its biggest names to graduation; yet the Silver Foxes are the front runners again. Robinson is among the biggest reasons, as he's going to be involved in just about every defensive snap one way or the other.    [player_tooltip player_id='1672924' first='Kendall' last='Wright'] QB, Gilbert (pictured)   Wright's move from Swansea maybe didn't the attention it could have, if for no other reason that it happened during a relatively busy part of the summer when it slipped through the cracks of talking season. At his new school, he almost immediately took control of the starting job and could really make the Indians' offense pop. He's got some big targets at tight end and experience at receiver and the type of running ability to keep pressure from getting to him in the pocket.   [player_tooltip player_id='1824234' first='Tyler' last='Garner'] WR, Wando   A couple players trades spots between Wando and Oceanside Collegiate in the offseason, and Garner brings with him some serious abilities that will help the Warriors' offense immediately and throughout the season. As a sophomore at OCA, he caught 36 passes for 589 yards and five touchdowns. Many of those were an afterthought to the Landsharks' total effort, but his skills won't be lost in the shuffle in his new program.    [player_tooltip player_id='1467808' first='Anthony' last='Simmons'] DL/OL, James Island    Simmons spent two years proving how his sheer size and athletic ability was undeniable at nearby North Charleston. He would have likely been the team's best player had he stayed where he was. Instead, he's joining a Class 5A program that has already figured how to use him  as an interior lineman on both offense and defense. Simmons has established himself as a rare talent, and if he continues to develop like one, keep your eye on him.    [player_tooltip player_id='1822485' first='Mikah' last='Quiller'] ATH, Strom Thurmond   Within weeks of his transfer to Strom Thurmond, the former Fox Creek standout had started to edge his way into early playing time with the defending Class 2A state champs. He first cracked into the two-deep as a receiver. And there's little to say he won't also eventually do the same in the defensive secondary and in the return game. As we saw while he was at Fox Creek, he only needs a sliver of space to make huge plays that can turn a game on its head.   [player_tooltip player_id='1341039' first='Tyvin' last='Grady'] LB, Hillcrest   Grady moved into a program with a new head coach and plenty of other movement within and outside the Rams' roster. So there's a huge element of the unknown on exactly how everything will play out. But the former Riverside linebacker and tailback has every opportunity to make waves throughout this fall. He's got speed that doesn't match his bulk, and he can pop ball carriers into submission. Hillcrest will need it against an absolute bear of a schedule.    [player_tooltip player_id='1819832' first='Jayden' last='Peeples'] ATH, Blackville-Hilda   Back in May, Peeples was among the most vital pieces of a Barnwell squad heading into the summer and beyond. By August, he was at Blackville-Hilda. There's no question he should be considered among the Hawks' best players. As a sophomore, Peeples ran for 773 yards and seven touchdowns, caught four passes for another 148 yards and two scores, mostly in electric form.
